The Chernivtsi Art Museum is located next to the Town Hall, in an Art Nouveau building built in 1901 for the Bukovina Savings Bank. The upper part of the facade is decorated with a majolica panel of 1904 depicting 12 ancient gods, symbolizing the economic prosperity of Austria-Hungary, on the cornice of the three-story building there are sculptures of the fertility goddess Demeter and the prophetess of fate Klotho. On the second floor of the museum, there is a stone fireplace in orange-red tones, shaped like a trapezoid, decorated with elegant ornaments made of forged copper. The Chernivtsi Regional Art Museum was founded in 1988 on the basis of exhibits from the city museum of local lore. Now the museum exhibits about 12,000 art objects, among them: a collection of iconography of the 17th-20th centuries, rare paintings by Bukovinian artists of the 18th-20th centuries, works of folk and decorative art of the 19th-20th centuries.

Rare paintings by Bukovinian artists are exhibited

The Chernivtsi Art Museum is located in an imposing building built in 1901 according to the project of arch. Eisenberg for the Bukovina Savings Bank. The building is considered one of the finest examples of the Vienna Secession style in Eastern Europe. The upper part of the facade is decorated with a majolica panel. Now the building exhibits rare paintings by Bukovinian artists from Turkish times to the present day.→
