Sanzhey lighthouse

Sanzhi lighthouse
Ukraine, Odesa
In the Black Sea, in the area of the coastline where the village of Sanzheyka is located, two undercurrents meet, coming from the west and east, which can be dangerous for passing ships. In 1792, a watch tower was erected here, on which warning flags were hung during the day, and signal lights at night. In 1921, the capital building of the lighthouse was built, which gradually slid down the cliff into the sea, as indicated by a commemorative plaque on the shore. In 1956, the current 19-meter tower of the Sanzhey lighthouse was built. Due to the ongoing collapse of the coast, in 2010 the lighthouse was moved inland to 80 meters from the sea.

The lighthouse is not on the shore, which, incidentally, every year gradually collapses, but in the depths, in an area that is fenced and protected. You can look at it both from the shore and from the village. Also in the village there is a memorial sign to the writer K. Paustovsky with the image of Sanzhiysky lighthouse.
