A few years ago we rested in Madeira, we liked everything very much, we wanted to repeat it again, but at the last moment we decided to explore "new lands" and chose the Algarve, the resort of Praia da Rocha. This is a small and quiet town with many restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, the ancient Santa Catarina Fort, and a yacht club. The Oriental is at the end of the main promenade, so it's quite calm and quiet in the evening. The hotel is nice, interesting architecture (Moorish style), different from all other hotels and villas. The rooms are spacious, all with a balcony (side and frontal sea view), there is a small kitchen fully equipped (pots, pans, plates, cups, glasses, forks, knives. . . ) The rooms were cleaned well and quickly. We left for breakfast, and when we returned, the room had already been cleaned. We only had breakfast. Breakfast included the following: different cheeses, sausage and ham, several types of muesli, scrambled eggs, sausages, fried tomatoes, yogurt, various fresh fruits, juices, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, honey and jam, buns and muffins. The beach is huge, wide, as in the Brazilian TV series, to the water from the hotel go 250 meters. The water was cold, the first days no one swam at all. We still dared to plunge, but immediately back. In general, the water has never been more than 18-19 degrees. The pool at the hotel is small, there are sun loungers around. On the other side of the hotel there is also a lawn with sun loungers, a small playground. In the evenings, people walk along the promenade back and forth, in the center (200 meters from the hotel) all sorts of entertainment, dancing, bars with different music and karaoke. A cute train rides around the town, we enjoyed a ride. We went to Seville, Monchique (a thermal resort, a very pleasant place, reminded us of Madeira), Cape San Vincent, Portimã o, etc. In Portimao there is a large supermarket that has everything, and in Praia da Rocha there are only small shops, and of course everything is more expensive. In general, we are satisfied with the rest, but it was better in Madeira.
