About Ukrainian hobbits, the oldest settlement and the first week of the Embroidered Way Tour!

We can't believe our eyes, but it is, the first week of the Embroidered Way Tour is over. And 2 more ahead! We are still alive, full of impressions and did not even kill each other on the route! =)

In fact, the thirst for adventure, travel and new places is growing day by day. Of course, we get tired, sleep little, walk a lot, fight, carry backpacks, do not have time to call relatives and, God, check the social. network, but we get a real thrill from this adventure, meet incredible people, learn about cool places and are filled with energy from the idea and our mission!

Well, now about our seventh day!

Probably, today was the most important and most important discovery of the first week for me - the settlement of Stilske.

In the morning we woke up and had breakfast at the Christian center "Vitania" and went to the city of Mykolayiv and the village of Stolsko with wonderful hills.

I am from Nikolaev. But only from the southern Nikolaev. And when here in the Tour I say where I'm from, you always need to clarify that from the south. After all, the Lviv region has its own Mykolayiv. And today, for the first time, I passed my alternative homeland.

As yesterday (by the way, do not forget to read the reports, there are many tips), we went to Stilsko and had no idea where and why we are going.

And there we met a prominent archaeologist and doctor of historical sciences - Orest Korczynski and heard what our world will not be like after that!

It was here, in a small and, at first glance, inconspicuous village, was once the capital of Slavic culture.

Stolsko settlement was a huge and powerful city in the 6-9 century. It was 25 times larger in area than Kyiv in the Vladimir period. The city occupied about 250 hectares. There were large temples, sculptures of Perun, the necropolis, its own navigable river.

According to ancient records of Arab sources in the 7-8 century there was a capital of Slavic culture and white Croats lived. According to legend, this name was given due to incorrect transliteration. White meant the first, and the Croats wrote so from the word Carpathians.

And this ancient capital was a very important center on the way from Europe to the Muslim world. And the name testified to the status of the capital, Stilsko - the table - to sit on the table, to be on the throne.

About 40 thousand people lived here.

people, and to the main settlement were subordinated to other cities in the district.

According to legend, in the 920-930s the next army came to the settlement and laid siege to it, the city steadily repulsed all the armies before. At dusk, the enemy army began to imitate the retreat and gather in the suburbs (now Trostyanets). The city opened its gates when it decided to lift the siege. Meanwhile, a garrison was hiding in the woods, storming the city and burning it. In those years, the whole city burned down. And the surviving inhabitants went to the valley.

Orest Korczynski devoted 35 years to archeological excavations and the study of this principality. But, unfortunately, few support him. Some historians even claim that there is no ancient settlement there and the city could not be bigger than ancient Kyiv.

Now Stolsko is included in the register of cultural monuments and only 1.5 years ago acquired the status of a regional reserve.

But he was not granted the status of nat. reserve.

Orestes says that objects and huge temples have now been found underground at a depth of 35-40 meters. But no one spends money on excavations and archeological operations. Representatives and ambassadors of Croatia used to come, make a film here and allocate some money. But so far no excavations are underway.

Not far from the main settlement, on the hill is the sanctuary "womb", which has a 3-meter room.

Now for personal experiences.

This is a wonderful place with strong energy and, of course, with world value. What was found during the excavations and what we now see just driving on the road - excites the imagination.

The houses where the monks lived are like real hobbit houses.

The place of sacrifice, which shows the drains for sacrificial blood, the steps to the place where the image of Perun stood, and the pedestal, which shows the symbol of the three elements: fire, water, air - all this is visible right next to the road. And to the sanctuary you need to get to the village of Iliv and crawl up a steep hill. It was very slippery and our feet tried to get up from time to time, but we climbed up and looked at this sanctuary. I'll just leave a photo here to assess the scale.

I do not understand why this place is not yet under the protection of UNESCO or at least some local institutions! Although I understand - a day ago I had no idea about such a treasury. And after conducting a small survey of friends, in 30 minutes I found out that no one knows about this ancient place. And it's very sad! This is our story!

At least now I will try to tell about this place to everyone and everywhere!

Thank you Embroidery Path for such discoveries! I hope that Orestes will not be left alone in his noble cause, that everyone will still learn about Stolsko, that this place will attract many people, and information about it will be spread. And you can help and repost!

And we end our mini-anniversary day in Lviv. And here we will spend 2 days. We are received by a cozy economy hotel Ecotel. We have a room with all the dishes, a shower and even high-speed internet! Hooray, we have a connection! We are already in civilization!

See you during our second week of the Tour!

Irina Zhuravel
