Yesterday I knew nothing about this city, and today I walk its streets, enjoying the fresh air and scenery.

After a great night's sleep and breakfast at the Rosynka children's camp, we went to the center of Zhovkva to the People's House and, accompanied by Halyna Petrovna, went through the streets of the city.

Zhovkva is a suburb of Lviv, but this city has its own interesting and fascinating history.

The town began with a castle and was founded by Mr. Stanislav Zholkevsky in 1594. He came to these lands, he liked the place, he bought them from the landlord, called an architect from Lviv and began to build an estate here, to build walls. And they built not just to, but according to the plan of ideal European cities, that is, all the streets lead to the center.

The name allegedly comes from the word "yellow" and the name of the place where Stanislav once had another estate.

First the castle was owned by Stanislaw Zholkewski, then by Prince Jan Sobieski, then by the Rodzywills. In addition, we are convinced that Bohdan Khmelnytsky was born here because his father worked for Sobieski during this period.

Zhovkva has always been inhabited by the creative elite: artists, blacksmiths, blacksmiths, in ancient times and now.

Our tour started with a beautiful wooden church - Trinity. It was built in 1720 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We have already seen a similar church, slightly larger, in Drohobych. But here the entrance is free.

By the way, in my imagination this is exactly what all the classical churches in Ukraine looked like. Only before I never saw them. Instead, there are several for this route.

After the church we walked along Lvivska Street and saw a pillar marking the year when Zhovkva already had electricity - 1933.

Lvivska Street led us past the Dominican Cathedral and led us to the place where the gate used to be, and now the main square begins.

The city center is very similar to the central squares of small Polish cities. And this is not because it is close to the border with Poland, but because Stanislaw Zholkewski often repeated after his friend and built a city similar to the Polish city Instead.

Of course, the main decoration of the square is the castle. Earlier there were 4 more gates, fortification walls. But they were dismantled in the 19th century and now there are only two gates. Once upon a time, all the nobility of the region came, and even Ivan Mazepa visited. And before 1939, more people lived here than now. And now there are about 13 thousand

The castle has a museum and exhibitions.

Entrance to the castle is paid, the cost is 10 UAH for visiting the yard and 20 UAH for visiting exhibitions.

The castle itself is under repair and many will not be able to see. But there is a smithy where master classes are held and a hetman's hall where you can look at the model of the city and learn about other ideal cities.

By the way, you can take a virtual tour of the castle by downloading the Izi program. travel.

And to get acquainted with the local cuisine, we went to the restaurant on the main square "Na Pidsinniy". In the restaurant you can feel the authenticity of the XVIII century. Here Galina treated us to sauerkraut, potato pancakes and delicious cheese soup.

In the afternoon we went to another important place - Krekhiv Monastery.

According to legend, two monks got lost in the woods, and birds brought them to the holy spring.

The birds allegedly sang "kreh-kreh", so the monks decided to call these places Krekhiv and asked Prince Zholkevsky in the 17th century for permission to build a monastery and began to build a monastery, which was also defensive. Many hetmans came to the monastery.

And near the monastery there is a healing spring and caves. There is a very picturesque path to them, although not the easiest.

We tried water, now we will wait for healing.

In one cave the monks lived, and in the other they prayed for the construction of a monastery. And there, and there now you can go and see.

After returning to the city, we visited the Church of St. Basil, which was founded in 1612.

It is interesting that the artist dared to go against the Polish government and in 1911-1939 painted in the style of the Ukrainian Renaissance. There are also relics of the Holy Party.

And after Zhovkva we went to the town of Belz. Which was also not suspected before. This town is located very close to the border - only 2 km. But it makes it interesting for tourists.

This is one of the oldest and smallest cities in Ukraine. He is mentioned as early as 1030 in the chronicles. It has up to 3.000 inhabitants, but it is a city. And this status has been maintained since the days of Cherven cities.

From the first minute we got here, we felt some peculiarity of this small town. Many interesting objects and history are preserved in a very small area.

Three peoples lived here: Ukrainians, Poles and Jews. And the Jewish community here used to be very large.

Rabbis from Israel come here and, according to legend, they are waiting for their mission to arrive here. There is an old Jewish cemetery and a synagogue. Belz Hasids are considered the richest.

Currently, only Ukrainians live in the city.

Belz is a city that could not be taken by the Tatar-Mongols, due to its location, it is located in swamps and marshes.

The city received the Magdeburg right, received the right to trade and store salt, which was important in those years.

There are holy places of worship and Christians here. There was an icon of the Mother of God, which was taken in the 14th century in Czestochowa and now it is there and is called the "Black Madonna". It is believed that the icon helped stop the horde of Tatar-Mongols. There is also a stone-core, which has the imprint of the Virgin's foot.

I thought this town was interesting and somehow mysterious.

I recommend to look at it and visit someday.

And we with the last rays of the sun went along the fields to our new place of accommodation - children's camp "Peer". We will rejuvenate in the camps =)
