Well, since such a topic has come up and we are talking about skansens, then I want to tell a little (very little) about the largest open-air museum in Ukraine, a real ethnographic treasure of our country - the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life in Pirogovo.

Here, picturesque Ukrainian villages of bygone eras of various ethnic regions of our country - the Carpathians, Podolia, Polissya, Nadnipryanshchyna, Slobozhanshchyna and Tavriya - stretch out across the boundless expanses, taking us back to the 16th-19th centuries.

This whole village life is represented not only by old huts, but also by rural schools, churches, mills, craft parks and even vegetable gardens, fields and paths. All this forms and creates a complete image of rural life, and if you really want to plunge into the flavor of a real Ukrainian village, feel the folk spirit of that time, see and understand the traditions of the hard-working and cheerful Ukrainian people, then you really need to come here for a week. I spent only one early spring day in this extraordinary place. Therefore, I will tell you about what I managed to see. If someone has a desire to continue the story, write the next part, I will be very glad to read it, since I did not master 150 hectares in one day.

Advice for tourists: at the entrance, take a picture of the map of the area with the location of objects, then you will know exactly where to go. And you still need to buy a ticket worth 50 hryvnia. You can, of course, try "hare", but I have no such experience. If you want to see everything in one day, rent a bike, as our children did, although I chose walking for myself.

We start the walk with a tour of the mills, which are located immediately after entering the museum.

And this is already in autumn colors:

Entire farmsteads, with sheds and pens for livestock:

Walking around the Ukrainian village, everywhere we meet huts under thatched roofs, or under the line, built of clay and reeds, and always with a stove.

You just want to sit on the mound, click on the seeds and chat with the young women.

There were pantries in the richer courtyard, where they kept simple rural belongings - mainly grain and products.

We go to visit one of the huts and immediately determine that a cooper's family lived here, the main craft of which was to make barrels, saucers, lids, spoons and other rural wooden utensils.

Women mainly spun and raised children (we can see a spinning wheel standing in the middle of the hut and a cradle next to it).

Here is the tavern. The guide really told us that only men went to the tavern to drink vodka, take a break from the zhinka and make a deal. Maybe this is not so, I convey from the words of a local guide.

The church was an outlet for the female part of the population.

This unique wooden church of the 17th century, by the way, is active, I even listened to the service, where oil poured on me from the lamp : )

Not far from the church is the hut of Taras Shevchenko's grandson by brother.

There was a school in many villages, so the children had the opportunity to study. At the same time, the teacher, as a rule, lived at the school.

I was interested in the schedule, which is still hanging on the wall. Please note that each day began with a lesson in the "Law of God", i. e. children were instilled with spirituality and a culture of behavior.

You can see many musicians playing various folk instruments - kobza, bandura, gusli, lyre, flute. Walks to the Ukrainian folk music give a special, unforgettable experience.

In this place, on the feast of Ivan Kupala, the exposition "Oak of Perun" was opened. This cult tree of the ancient Slavs, about two thousand years old, was found in the Desna in 1975. Then it was placed in the Museum of Archeology, then in the Pirogovo Museum, and only recently an exposition was created.

Theatrical performances and festivities are constantly held on the territory of the museum during folk holidays. There are also many craft workshops where various master classes are held. For example, you can fashion a clay pot yourself, skillfully wielding a potter's wheel, or sew a doll - a motanka, or paint a jug - a whisperer, and then make wishes into it.

In general, take a blanket, a picnic basket with you, or don’t take it - this way you will have the opportunity to taste real Ukrainian cuisine, since there are tents everywhere offering various goodies and drinks. And relax in a wonderful corner on the picturesque outskirts of Kyiv.

From the cycle "I love Ukraine" (I look forward to continuing).
