End of the Tropicana

Were 23-30.10. 2010 with husband. Teztur operator. Departure from Kyiv.
Mood: reading negative reviews after buying the tour did the trick…
1. Settlement.
After the transfer from the airport, the teztour employee led me to the reception, helped to fill out the documents and drove on. We were offered a room and we went to look for it. The staff on the street was friendly and helped to find the right cluster. Upon entering the room, two single beds were found, which was not at all included in our plans. The location was also not the best: the first floor - windows towards the sea but with a view of the cottage in front. In this heat, in polars and sneakers, we returned to the reception. There, just a couple who flew in with us changed from a room with a surcharge to a sea view, and offered us to look at their room, the staff was already running to see us off, yelling “just look”.
The room did not surprise us with old furniture (the reviews were read more than once).

Room on the first floor in the main building overlooking the pool and access from the balcony to it
(which we appreciated later). Whether because of the heat or because of laziness, we decided not to continue the search.

2. Staff. Contingent.
The staff for the most part (% 80) understands Russian, knows the numbers and the necessary words to communicate with the tourist. Contingent: 50% Slavs: Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Bulgarians, Czechs, Poles. The rest are Arabs (it can be seen that the hotel is also popular among its own, since there were quite a lot of them and almost all of them with 2-3 children).

3. Number.
The room is small (2099). Rooms with two beds are slightly larger (1145), well, this is logical.
Bathroom:
In a room with a double bed: a bath, a toilet, a marble countertop with a sink and a large mirror. In the reviews, I have repeatedly seen statements about a paid hair dryer or its absence - we had a hair dryer. And in our friends room too, free. So no comments, everyone has their own truth.
The disadvantage of the bathroom is small, with a busy toilet, it is inconvenient to squeeze through to the mirror. The tile is not new, there was one visible crack, but I didn’t pay attention to it anymore, besides, I didn’t see this in other rooms.
In a room with two beds: bath, toilet, bidet.
Room:
a set of furniture is standard for any hotel, including at home: a bed
(beds), bedside tables, desk, two armchairs and a coffee table, mini-fridge, TV (tube). There is a Russian channel, but they were not fond of it. Wardrobe, on one of the shelves is a safe. Many write that the safe often did not work. When we got to the room, we immediately checked everything was fine. However, the problem really exists, since out of the 4 rooms of our check-in, two couples had problems with the safe (sim-sim closed and did not want to open in any way), later the problem was solved for both of them by calling respectively. the boy who discovered everything. The carpets in the room are not quite young.
Terrace/balcony:

we had a terrace, 2-3 floors had a balcony with a white plastic table and two chairs.

4. Location. Territory.
The location of the hotel is chic - Shark's bay. And this is largely the reason for the positive impression of the rest. The hotel is located among the famous fives, Rojana on the left, Four seasons, Sunrise, Savoy, Concord, Hilnon on the right. Thanks to such a solid neighborhood, SOHO square entertainment district appeared within 4 years within a five-minute walk (souvenir shops, cafes, a couple of supermarkets, duty-free, scheduled fountain show, cultirama-ice rink). The Soho area is richly decorated with brand new sculptures and figurines of children, animals, musicians, etc. ). Everything is new.
Hotel territory:
on the operator's website it is described as a big green one. But I disagree about the big one. And being there, they walked around the hotel quite quickly and on Google Earth, in comparison not only with neighbors, but also with hotels in Naama, Nabq, the territory is small.
However, everything is arranged logically, it is impossible to get lost: two lines of two and three-story buildings and a large building of two wings framing the pool. Everything is pretty neat and pretty. The road to the sea, even from the main building, does not tire.
5. Pastime: entertainment, excursions.
In addition to 1 main restaurant, 3 a la carte (by reservation). Italian, oriental and fish. Everything is small. The menu is not amazing variety, but everything is quite tasty.
Animation in the hotel was not at all !!! ! !
Bus to Namma Bay free of charge according to the schedule (booking in the morning for the evening)
Lobby bar in the lobby, snack bars on the beach and by the pool.
Excursions are the advantage of not a hotel but an operator. We did not risk and used the services of a mez-tour. We went to Cairo by bus and to Ras Mohamed by bus. There are a lot of excursions in the list and we will visit a lot in one more vacation, this is just an unreal race. The only thing that is a little expensive 250 per person Luxor by plane.

It seems that in order to go to Luxor, you need to settle in Hurghada. The most popular excursions are Jerusalem and Cairo.
6. Food
7. I agree with the reviews about food: there is not much variety, but no one remained hungry.
8. Main restaurant: breakfast/lunch/dinner menu is repeated. Everything is in its place. There is always rice, stewed and steamed vegetables (fresh), pasta. potatoes, steak. Sausage-cheese is not tasty: the cheese is dry, the sausage is similar to brawn - a bit too much starch, it was also "green and blue meat" because of the appearance they did not try. There is one adapted sausage: something like Rusanovskaya with peppercorns. There is cottage cheese by itself, with fruits or vegetables. The choice of fruit is not great: there are always dates, pamello, melon, guava. Less often oranges, bananas, grapes, apple. There were fruit salads with yushka.
We were pleased with the presence of life-cook For breakfast, the guys fry three types of scrambled eggs, or scrambled eggs and pancakes, to which there are black and milk chocolate toppings, fig filling.
There are also packaged jams with a standard chemical flavor. For lunch on the balcony of the restaurant: fried vegetables, vegetables with meat or liver from a frying pan, kebab, chicken, pizza.
The snack bar on the beach has one name: french fries with ketchup, a burger with a cutlet, that's probably all.
A la carte restaurants are small, as I already wrote, the menu is not varied, but everything is delicious.
Drinks everywhere in the hotel except the lobby are poured into plastic. And if this is normal on the beach for safety reasons, then in the main restaurant it was often even necessary to drink tea and coffee from plastic, since there were no clean cups - it was unpleasant.
9. Sea

No complaints. Even in comparison with Ras Mohamed, and even more so with pontoons of 150 meters. The same reviews from people who have already been in Sharm 7 times in different hotels, And Napoleons and stingrays and moray eels - everything is in place. In addition, there was a coral blooming season - so the main impression is the sea. The pool and the beach close at 18-15.
The pool is like everywhere else. Only faded towels did not please. On the tour it was impossible not to notice that our yellow ones are the most terrible. Although in the photo on the site (naturally old) they are fluffy and bright. The towels in the room were also worn and not perfectly white. The wooden sun loungers on the beach were also far from new, but as for me, not new wood is better than plastic. But the mattresses did not please at all: there were many torn or badly worn ones.
10. End of the Tropicana.
We got to the last days of the Tropicana. The hotel was purchased by new owners, on the last day we caught an inventory, a change of staff (interviews), a celebration of the purchase (a pig in the main restaurant). And when leaving, even the deletion of emblems from all glasses at the reception by the newly minted staff.
The new name of the AA Grand Oasis Resort. And while the hotel is not sold on the Russian market by Teztour, according to the info on the site.
