The best option to visit the Plitvice Lakes National Park, arriving on vacation in Croatia, is to book an individual tour. The beginning of the excursion takes place along the picturesque Yadran highway, along the sea coast, from where wonderful landscapes open up to the islands of Krk and Rab. Along the route, we pass small towns located right on the Adriatic coast. First stop, at the observation deck, located above the ancient city of Bakar (Bakar), located in the bay of the same name. Continuing to move on, the highway turns into the most beautiful mountain road "Josefin's Cesta", which leads us into the depths of the mainland. Travel time from Opatija to the National Park is about two hours. Plitvice Lakes is a National Park consisting of 16 lakes connected by 92 waterfalls. The total area of the lakes is about 2 square kilometers, and the entire National Park is located on an area of .200 square kilometers.
Due to its unique beauty, rich flora and fauna, this place was proclaimed a National Park in 1949, and in 1979, by decision of UNESCO, the Plitvice Lakes were included in the list of world natural monuments. This unique creation of nature, which arose about four thousand years ago, attracts a huge number of tourists every year. There are several routes to choose from, with varying difficulty and travel time. The shortest route, most suitable for families with children, takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. A walk along the lakes, if you go along the busiest route, takes about 5 hours with rest stops.
Despite the dry summer in Croatia (there was no precipitation for about 2 months), the lakes are full-flowing and the waterfalls function normally.
