Miravet Castle, like the village of the same name, was founded by the Moors and rebuilt by the Templars, who turned it into a fortress-monastery after the conquest in 1153. It is considered the largest fortress complex in Catalonia and one of the best examples of the Romanesque religious and military architectural monument in Europe.
