Church of Saint Vincent

Eglise Saint Vincent, Eglise Saint-Vincent des Baux
France, Les Baux-de-Provence
The Church of Saint Vincent was built in the Romanesque style in the 12th century. Then the building was rebuilt several times and now has an unusual look, combining many styles. The church is dedicated to Vincent of Saragossa, a martyr who lived in the 3rd century. It is notable for its ancient stained-glass windows, which were not damaged in any war. Also noteworthy is the tower with gargoyles, where the “lantern of death” is lit when one of the inhabitants of Bo dies.

Saint Vincent Church (Eglise Saint-Vincent) was built between the 12th and 15th centuries in Romanesque style. She is a kind of custodian of ancient traditions born during the reign of the Bo family. One of them is the lighting of the “lantern of death” on the church bell tower. That was the name of the little light that burned all night when one of the noble inhabitants of Le Baux died. The contemporary stained glass windows of the church were donated in 1960 by Rainier III, Prince of Monaco.
