Le Baux Castle is located on a high cliff of the Alpilles, covers an area of ​​about 7 hectares and is one of the main attractions of Provence. The castle was first mentioned in 981, it was the citadel of one of the most powerful feudal families de Bo.
During the Wars of Religion in France, the castle became one of the fortifications of the Huguenots. After the suppression of the Calvinist rebellion, the castle was destroyed in 1632 by order of Cardinal Richelieu.
The castle offers breathtaking panoramic views of Provence, from Aix-en-Provence to Arles.

A place worth visiting
A stunningly beautiful place, included in the list of "10 most beautiful towns in France. " There are no words to describe the panoramic views that open from the observation decks - even the photos do not convey this beauty! This is definitely a must see!! ! And the streets of the town itself are very colorful. I recommend visiting in the afternoon, when the crowds of tourists who are brought here by bus in the morning disperse. I want to be sure to warn everyone that this is always a very windy place, because of the strong winds this valley is even called "Devil's Valley", so be sure to bring something like scarves and windbreakers!.→

For lovers of views of the city and fortifications
From the once impregnable Castle there are beautiful ruins and a magnificent view of the Alpilles mountain range and the roofs of Le Baux. The cost of visiting is 10 euros. Opening hours from 9-00 to 20-15 (work schedule depends on the season). Details can be found at http://www. chateau-baux-provence. com/fr. An audio guide is issued free of charge (available in Russian), but only on the security of a passport or other identity card. On the territory of the Castle there is an exhibition of siege weapons (13th century).→
