Pillars of Hercules - Rock of Gibraltar

Rock of Gibraltar, Mount Tarika,
Gibraltar, Gibraltar
The 426 m high Rock of Gibraltar is both a fortress and a nature reserve. It is located on the territory of the British Gibraltar and is known as the northern Pillar of Hercules. Barbary macaques live in the reserve in the upper part of the mountain, and an 18th-century Moorish fortress rises on one of the slopes. Also in the bowels of this rock there are many caves (the caves of St. Michael and Gorham are worthy of attention) and dug tunnels, more than 50 km long. A cable car rides to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar - there is an observation deck that offers an excellent view of the city itself and the coasts of Africa and Spain.

Perhaps the most memorable attraction here are monkeys - tailless macaques. This folk is everywhere, except for the center, where they have recently been reasoned with - they are very unbelted! Often, drivers have to slow down when a monkey crosses the road in a convenient place, not paying attention to anyone. Now they put up announcements that one should not flirt with monkeys - the people are hooligan, no matter how you regret it later.

On the European side, the strait between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea is limited by the rock of Gibraltar, which was formed when, according to legend, Hercules / Hercules punched a passage into the ocean, but narrowed it, preventing ocean monsters from swimming into the Mediterranean. For the ships of that time, further voyage meant certain death, respectively, the World on the other side was already the Otherworld. On the rocks on both sides in ancient times, Pillars were erected symbolizing the Gates to another world.
