Fountain of Rimondi

The Rimondi fountain was built in 1626 during the reign of the Venetian governor A. Rimondi, who took the building for the construction of the fountain. The fountain performed the function of providing fresh water to nearby areas. Its height is about three meters, the facade consists of four Corinthian columns standing on a small stone elevation. Between the columns at their base were placed stone bowls to collect water.

Between the columns, you can also distinguish the Rimondi family coat of arms and an inscription in Latin, which means “Generous spring” in translation. The Rimondi Fountain is located in Piazza Platano near the harbor.

Nice place in the old town.
A piece of an ancient wall with a fountain. It will not be easy to find it in the interweaving of streets without a GPS navigator. In general, it is very useful to have a GPS navigator in Crete in order not to spend a lot of time looking for sights, because often the signs give only a general direction.→
