Monument to András Hadik

Monument to Count András Hadik von Futak
Hungary, Budapest
The equestrian monument to the military leader Count András Hadik von Futak is located on Castle Hill in Budapest, at the intersection of Szentharomshag and Uri streets. The author of the monument, erected in 1837, is the sculptor György Vastag, who created another equestrian monument, also located on Castle Hill, a monument to the Hungarian military leader and revolutionary Artur Gergey.
Andras Hadik (October 16, 1710 - March 12, 1790) - an Austrian field marshal of Hungarian-Slovak origin, went down in history as a hero of the Seven Years' War of 1756-1763, who carried out a daring cavalry raid on Berlin in October 1757, taking him for a day. For the liberation of the city, Hadik demanded from the Berlin municipality a significant monetary compensation for himself, his officers and soldiers. The merits of the hussar Andras Hadik were marked by a high imperial award, which in the entire history of Austria was awarded to only 20 generals - the Grand Cross of the Order of Maria Theresa.
The monument is also dedicated to the memory of the 3rd Imperial and Royal Hussars of Arad, founded in 1702 and existed until the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918. A glass container with the names of the heroes of the regiment is embedded in its base.

Andras Hadik - Austrian field marshal of Hungarian-Slovak origin, hussars. The statue stands on the Castle Hill of Budapest, on Uri Street, not far from the Church of St. Matthias. One piquant feature is connected with this monument: Budapest students have a belief that touching the balls of a hussar horse brings good luck in the exam. It is easy to guess which parts of the horse are polished to a shine : )))
