The Eger Basilica was built in neoclassical style by architect Jozsef Hild. The basilica was erected on the site of a Turkish mosque in 1837. The interior of the cathedral is decorated in the Baroque style. The original 52-register organ of the 19th century has been preserved in the temple; in 2000 it was restored. In 1970, the cathedral was given the honorary status of a minor basilica.

Restoration work in progress
Restoration work is underway, which, however, does not prevent us from appreciating the beauty of the basilica. In July 2019, the restoration of the facade and the square in front of the basilica was carried out. The square was blocked, but you can go around it to get to the cathedral→

The second largest temple in Hungary
The architect Josef Hild changed the traditional church scheme with the entrance on the west side and moved the main entrance of the Basilica to the east, turning it towards the Old City. The cathedral is famous for its organ - the largest organ in Hungary, which was built by a master from Salzburg at the end of the 19th century.→
