Sculpture commemorating the Turkish occupation

Kisviz kavezo
Hungary, Eger
The sculpture is located on Franca Tivadar Street, near the thermal baths. The sculpture is dedicated to the period of Turkish occupation, which lasted almost a century, until the end of the 17th century, until the city came under the rule of the Habsburgs. Turkish soldiers turned Christian churches into mosques and added minarets. In 1687, the Turks were expelled from the city, and Eger experienced a period of rapid development, many Baroque churches were built. This is exactly what the sculpture depicts, how a magnificent temple is born from a strict mosque, how, after a century of desolation, the city again experienced a period of rise and rose from the ashes. The sculpture is part of the façade of the Kisvíz Kávézó café.

Near the Eger thermal bath (Eger Termal Kft, u. Frank Tivadar, 5) there is an unusual monument - a Christian temple hatching from a minaret and an arrow broken on its dome. The sculptural group is dedicated to the long period of occupation by the Turks of the territory of modern Hungary.
