At one time, Empress Elisabeth (better known as Sissi) visited Merano twice, and stayed here for a long time. The crowned lady firmly believed in the unusually beneficial effect of local air and water. The favorite walking route of the Empress was called the "Imperial Trail", it runs along the banks of the mountain river Passirio.
