Shinigama Hindu Temple is the main attraction of Hikkaduwa. The temple is quite large and consists of an island part (Seenigama Muhudu Viharaya) and a mainland part (Seenigama Devol Devalaya). Here the inhabitants of local fishing villages worship the god Devol, the patron of successful fishing. The temple is also interesting because it is one of two temples in Sri Lanka, where the victims of robberies can ask the higher powers for retribution. Entrance to the temple is free, but to get to the island part of it, you will have to pay for the boat.
Visitors to Sinegama Vihara Temple will be curious to see its interior decoration and listen to beautiful singing during the morning service. There is also a wonderful beach near the temple.
