Mount Mithridates

Mount Mithridates
Crimea, Kerch
Mount Mithridates rises like a high dome over Kerch. Two and a half thousand years ago, there was an acropolis of the ancient Panticapaeum, the capital of the Bosporus kingdom. Walls girded the mountain, the royal dwelling towered above it, stone temples shone with whiteness. On the slopes - rich residential buildings. Buildings with an area of about one hundred hectares descended to the Panticapı River, the current Melek-Chesme.

Mithridates has been excavated for a long time. Of all that has been explored by archaeologists, of particular interest are the remains of the pritaneum - a public building of the first centuries of our era. Some of the archaeological finds are exhibited in St. Petersburg - in the Bosporus Hall of the Hermitage, most - in the Kerch Historical and Archaeological Museum.
Obelisk of Glory on top of Mithridates. The exploits of the liberators of Kerch - the soldiers of the Primorsky Army and the Azov military flotilla - are immortalized by a triangular obelisk 24 meters high, erected in 1944 on the top of Mount Mithridates, designed by the architect Ginzburg. The monument rests on a massive trefoil-shaped plinth, on the ledges of which 76-millimeter guns are placed. In 1959, the Eternal Flame was lit here.

Who knows, maybe this sight will inspire YOU to something.
