The stela with a golden griffin is located near the building of the Main Post Office, at the intersection of Lenin and Kirov streets. The stele is a white Ionic column, the top of which is crowned with a golden sculpture of a griffin, the symbol of the city. The monument was erected in 2000 to celebrate the 2600th anniversary of the founding of the city. At the foot of the stele there are stars with the names of hero cities, famous for their heroic defense during World War II.
