Basilica of St. George

Bazilika svateho Jiri
Czech republic, Prague
The Basilica of St. George, located in Prague Castle, is one of the oldest churches in the city. It was founded in 920 and enlarged in 973. Over the entire period of its existence, the structure has been rebuilt and expanded more than once, and at present only a little remains of its original appearance. But, despite this, the basilica has not lost its unique appearance.

Basilica of St. George (Jiri) - the second largest church in Prague Castle. At the beginning of the XIII century to the south side of the tower was added the chapel of St. Ludmila. The southern portal of the basilica (from Irzhskaya Street) is decorated with a relief depicting St. Rust, who fights a dragon (author Benedict Reed). The western faç ade of the basilica acquired a modern look during the Baroque period as a result of the reconstruction made by Francesco Caratti (in 1671) and Františ ek Maximilian Kanka (in 1718-1722).
