There are few attractions in Durres: an ancient theater with mosaics, a Byzantine forum, an archaeological museum, fortress walls and a Venetian tower, King Zogu's villa (officially not allowed), St. Paul's Church, John Lennon Park.
The sea, by the way, is not very good, the normal sea begins in Vlore and to the south.

Durres had the dirtiest sea I have ever seen in my life. Opposite the park, the water is like milk. But, that was 5 years ago, maybe now the situation has been completely corrected. A lot of money is being invested in Albania and the country is getting better every year.
I saw all the above sights, except for the king's villa (the villa is only from afar), they did not make a particularly vivid impression. The most memorable sight was the restaurant on the roof of one of the high-rise hotels, from where a gorgeous view of the port was opened)))

Yes, I also disdained swimming in Durres. But people swim...

Have you been to Albania for a long time? I was in 2013, so I thought that the situation could have improved during this time. at that time there were built a lot of expensive hotels. money was invested mainly by Italy and Germany. in general, it was interesting to look at the contrasts - a chic hotel and literally 10 meters from it are real slums, which were not very pleasant to walk around.
I read that in Albania in general, and in Durres in particular, there are gorgeous beaches, but I didn’t see them anywhere.
in general, the country is terribly dirty. nature seems to be beautiful, but at the same time everything is dirty. rubbish is dumped into rivers. I don’t remember the name of the town, near it the banks of the river were turned into a landfill. the spectacle is disgusting. in the center of Tirana, next to the palace of the president (or the government, I don’t remember exactly), there is a river into which, apparently, sewage was drained. the stench is terrible. we were then warned not to buy anything edible on the street or in cheap eateries, as there was a high probability of poisoning. if you go to eat - then only in a good restaurant.

Yes, Albania did not like the same. Although we lived away from Dures, 10 km, the sea was not bad there. But in general, really dirty and uninteresting.
