Who has been to Albania?
Tell us about your summer holidays in Albania.
They say it's also good there in spring and autumn (in some areas)
Any information would be of interest.
Thank you in advance

I was in Adbania, but on the May holidays on a sightseeing tour we didn’t swim either. A friend of mine went this year, they stayed in the port city of Durres, he really liked it there, the hotel and the beach are good. A city near Tirana, on the Adriatic Sea, you can freely go on excursions. But you can also relax on the coast of the Ionian Sea near the Greek island of Kerkyra (near the city of Saranda). But in summer it is very hot there.

thank you very much for your answer
Can you or your friend recommend any hotels on the coast?
аватар Mariya_A
Also, can you please tell me which company organized the tour there?
аватар gefiona
I do not remember the name of the hotel, but the tour is called "Adriatic Necklace", it was organized by the travel company "Center" ( http:www.cntr.com.ua). I was on the first promotional tour in May, but we didn't spend the night in Durres. Later, changes were made and the tour was extended to 14 days. Tour route Chop-Hungary-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Croatia-Montenegro-Albania-Macedonia-Serbia. I really liked the Macedonian Ohrid on the shores of the lake of the same name. There is a similar tour in "Inkomartur-93", it is called "Symphony of the Balkans". But all these tours are more excursions, swimming in the sea is episodic, except perhaps to refuse optional excursions. So choose what you like best: relaxing on the beach by the sea or a rich, but very interesting excursion program...

I was in Albania on my own. You can read my notes (search by nickname!). Albania has 2 seas: the Ionian and the Adriatic, as well as huge sandy beaches, low prices and few people. The weather there is quite hot, the water is warm, especially in Ionica. You can get there in a variety of ways: by ferry from Greece or Italy, on foot, by bus or by taxi from a neighboring country (for example, Montenegro, Macedonia, etc.). The people there are friendly, the products are natural and there are many local Russians, especially in port cities like Durres. So go and do not hesitate, have a good rest!

thanks a lot for all your answers!
I also had a question about visas: it seems that for 2012 Albanian visas for Ukrainian citizens have been cancelled. Is it true? Since it is not very convenient to apply for a visa through the embassy in Poland.
аватар magnus777
Usually, from June 1 to September 30, visas are canceled for most foreigners. It's the same this year. But it's better to call the embassy or go to their website and check, as the rules are constantly changing.

magnus777, can you recommend any hotels or apartments in Albania (Ionika)?
аватар magnus777
I never book anything in advance, there are lots of hotels and apartments too. I go to any hotel and ask the price, then I go to look at the room. If I don't like something, I move on .. that's all. It is the same with private owners, apartments are rented near the sea (on coastal streets), there are no problems renting them. Plus, there are a lot of agencies that can find you an apartment. However, if you are renting it for 1-2 days, then there is no point in bothering with an agency.
Another option. You can find a real estate agent and say that you are planning to buy an apartment, but first you would like to live there for a week or two (like look at the area, neighbors, etc.). Many sellers rent an apartment in such an advertising lease. So joke!

Magnus777, still need your advice. What are the food prices in Albania? How much can you eat/taste national cuisine in a good cafe/restaurant?
going to the coast in Saranda)
thank you in advance
аватар magnus777
Prices in Albania are very low! For 1 euro, you can eat up to satiety, if you tarry in a supermarket or in the market, and in a restaurant it is more expensive. A good lunch will cost about 3-7, or even 10 euros per person. But if you are not used to luxury, then you can eat in simple cafes, it is much cheaper there.
And Saranda is a wonderful place, it is a port city, ferries go to Greece and Italy from there. If you have Schengen visas, you can take a ride to Kerkyra (Greek island).
Have a good rest!

Thank you very much!!
And if I may, I will have a few more questions for you regarding transport.
The fact is that in our company there will be no person with a driver's license. Therefore, I wanted to ask what is the best way to get from Tirana to Saranda? As far as I know, there are about 300 km between them. I already googled this question. It turns out that you can take a taxi - about 140 euros one way, or by bus - about 1500 lek (if direct, that is, somewhere around 11 euros). But we had doubts about the bus, and in general, local public transport: safety, etc. + by taxi - 5 hours, by bus - about 8 hours, and, besides, according to the schedule, they go either at 05: 00 am, or at 22:00 in the evening (and we arrive in the afternoon).
We also looked at vehicles already "in place" - it seems that bicycles are not favored there))).
If you know, we will be very grateful to you for the hint. Thanks.

P.S.: if you have any information about the local exchange rate, we will be very grateful.
I consider the following courses:
1 lek - 0.0073 euro
1 dollar - 112.0471 lek - that is, 1 lek - 0.00892482 dollars
аватар magnus777
Regarding the exchange rate, I wrote everything in my story, for 1 euro they give about 140 Albanian leks.
And about transport, everything is simple. It all depends on where you will be traveling from (from Podgorica, Ulcinj, Tirana, Durres, etc.). If you have money, you can take a taxi (this is how we entered the country), if you don’t have a lot of money, then take the bus (and it’s safer). If you go from Tirana, then there are trains and buses to Durres, and further along the coast on anything.

Good day!
Once again I would like to thank you for the useful information.
new questions appeared)) (this year we want to combine holidays in Albania and Macedonia):
1) Is there any public transport from Ohrid to the Albanian coast (Saranda, Dhermi...)? Or at least to Tirana? maybe there are websites on transport in albania...
2) if you choose between Saranda and Dermi - which is better? As far as I understood from online sources, the village of Dhermi is remarkable mainly for its beaches ... And Saranda is a developed resort town, moreover, not far from Ksamil, Butrint, Blue Eye and Gjirokastra ...
looking forward to your advice! =)

We are also going to Albania at the end of June through Feeria to Durres - flight and accommodation for 10 days. Advise where you can really go by public transport and what you can see on your own, otherwise I read that there are problems with the language, no one understands Russian or English

Please tell me! How can a Ukrainian quickly and cheaply get to Albania? What airline company does not tear off three skins and deliver to this wonderful country?
аватар Nikita_Zhirnov
It’s much easier to get from Ukraine now than from Russia. You have launched direct charters from several cities.

returned from beautiful Albania 2 days ago, a lot of impressions,
I will gather my thoughts, I will sit down for a report / story.
We flew by charter Kyiv Tirana Kyiv from BravoAvia
current exchange rate 135-137 lek per 1 euro
(137 lek for 1 euro are given in Tirana in the tourist center in the Opera building, 136 lek / 1 euro are given in Saranda on the square where buses arrive, at the airport upon arrival the rate was 132.5 lek for 1 euro - they changed there only 10 euros for the road to Tirana and a snack)
The US dollar is exchanged at 118-122 leks per dollar

some info on buses
We drove from Tirana to the Borsh stop for 6 hours (the minibus left at 16-15 or so - the Albanians are somewhat sloppy in terms of the accuracy of the transport schedule)
Ticket 1300 lek per person (trade;))))
from Saranda to Tirana the bus leaves at 21-00
We went by bus from Himara to Tirana - departed at 5-10 in the morning (about 6 hours on the way)
ticket for 1 person cost 1000 lek
From Lukove towards Saranda there is a bus at 9-20 (ticket 300 lek per person) -
he is going back from Saranda at 14-00
The bus stops Lukove in the direction of Tirana at 6-00 in the morning (well, or 6-10 ... you won’t get an exact answer from the locals, they said, come to the bus stop at 6-00)
Saranda-Ksamil-Butrint is connected by a bus route, departure 1 time per hour, there are stop signs with a timetable of the traffic schedule - just a breakthrough of civilization)))) for that she and Saranda are the pearl of the Ionian Sea
from Butrint to Ksamil ticket 50 lek, from Ksamil to Saranda 100 lek per person
