We also flew by plane, lived in the Rott Hotel, which is in the very center on the Old Town Square for 3 days for 500 EURO per person. The second time we went by bus and lived somewhere... Well, it's better to pay an extra 100 Euros and live in the center, then you just soak and dissolve in Prague. I will give you one piece of advice - when choosing a hotel, make sure that it is located no further than in Prague-2, and the most ideal option is Prague-1. The number of stars is not important, since you will not sit in the room.

Transport in Prague is very convenient.
Of course, if the price difference is not big, then it is better to live in the center. We traveled by bus and lived in conveniently located hotels, 15-20 min. from the center.
On the site http://www.mapy.cz/ look where the hotel is located and choose. Prices for tours and programs are about the same for everyone. But the proposed hotels may not be conveniently located for well-known tour operators, and for small tour companies, on the contrary (as we saw for ourselves). Good luck!
