I was in Abu Dabbab on January 12, 2010. The beach is exactly as described by the Pope. Just be aware that the beach is huge. Both in length and width. Very clean. Excellent sand. In general, it evokes thoughts of Rio de Janeiro :)
Entering the sea with a width of 10 meters is not so much for the safety of swimmers, but so that the groups do not disperse away from the instructors.
We entered and exited the second dive with an instructor 100 meters to the right of the fenced area. The bottom is sandy and clean. I was generally without fins and slippers.
The corals to the left of the tourist "trail" described by the Pope are really no better than those that we had at the Resta Reef hotel. But that coral wall, which is 200 meters to the right, is a completely different matter! There is a wonderful variety here. And not just turtles. Stingrays, crocodile fish, Nemo clowns, and a lot of everything.
In total, in 2 swims of 40 minutes, the snorkel swam, a kilometer and a half.
Without fins, I was tired like a dog, but I had a lot of fun.
I forgot to say. We went from a hotel guide from Pegasus for $ 35 per person. For half a day. That is, we returned to the hotel for lunch. I think that half a day is what you need. The second half of the day is superfluous.

I went on an excursion to this bay with a group. The first swim was with a group. I rented fins, but I couldn't swim in them (cheap fins, like boards on my feet).
