You need to go to Sharm El Sheikh for diving, there are mostly coral reefs near the coast, on the beach you can enter the sea from pontoons. In Hurghada there are beaches with sandy entry into the sea. I agree that it depends on the hotel, I think it's better to choose some network (Marriott, Hilton), the service will be better.

We like to relax in Sharm more. But for lovers of sandy beaches, Hurghada is better. If you like to dive, then Sharm is definitely! I have never seen such beauty as in the Ras Mohamed reserve. Good luck, if you go to Sharm with a child, check which beach is at the hotel - in Sharm there are hotels with a shallow entry, but there is immediately depth.

I have been to Sharm and Hurghada. And I can definitely say that Sharm is more of a family vacation! Beautiful sea, more expensive vacation in every sense. If the entrance to the sea (pontoon) is not a minus for children (not very small), then Sharm is better. Hurghada is more youthful, active recreation, there are many entertainments for children. Although they say correctly that if you go to Hurghada later, it will disappoint you compared to Sharm. It is difficult to advise here, depending on what you expect from your holiday.

And how old are your children? There is a very nice hotel in Hurghada: El Palacio. It is located a 2-minute bus ride from the central part of the city. The hotel has a sandy beach on one side and coral reefs on the other side. For children there are specially designated places in the restaurant, special meals and a playground. Good in Hurghada and Sharm. It all depends on what you need. There are many historical sights near Hurghada (Luxor, Karnak, Abu Simbel). But to corrals and fish, as a rule, you need to go on an excursion (if it's not Makadi or Soma Bay). But water parks and the city are nearby, you can take a minibus. In Taba, at the Sonesta Witch Hotel, the entrance to the sea is cleared just like in Hurghada, but the entrance is not so long.
