shells and corals are strictly forbidden to be exported! at the customs at the entrance to the airport they can take it away or do something more serious, I do not advise!

It is forbidden to export antiques, corals and other marine flora and fauna from Egypt (even those picked up on the shore). If you violate this prohibition, you will be fined $1,000.

my friend brought a coral that he found on the shore,
put in ceramic a cup and did not notice at customs, because chem. the composition is the same

2 times I brought small and beautiful shells twisted like that. Somewhere around 6-7 cm. And also a small dead coral. Do not export live corals. When I passed the control, I looked back at the suitcases that were passing through the video, everything is colored and everything is visible to the smallest detail. I was afraid of course, but my shells probably did not notice. Next time I will not take it out, dumb and scary.
Good luck!

And I only found out that corals could not be taken out after my suitcases were already on the way to the airport. Well, nothing happened. I took out three pieces without hiding them anywhere. the guide just told us about the ban on the export of shells and corals. They took the floor of the bus and threw it out of the bags just on the seats of the shells for 25-50 pounds. After that (when everyone had already left), the guide collected these shells. That's it! I honestly also picked up one of the shells. And nothing, I brought it!

In fact, the export of corals, shells, etc. is forbidden, even a rather big fine is provided for this, but our compatriots manage anyway (I was an eyewitness :)). So if you are lucky in such matters - you and the cards in your hands, although we did not risk it.

You will be very lucky if no one notices these corals!!! And if you get some freak-customs officer?! Why do you need such trouble, especially since there is nothing particularly beautiful in dead corals! Better bring some souvenir, for example, a scarab beetle or a cartouche (this is such a very nice pendant made of gold or silver, your name is written on it with Egyptian symbols, it costs $ 10-50, but you definitely can’t buy this anywhere else, only in Egypt .They are sold in Luxor).
Good luck!

It’s better not to take anything out, I saw how they searched the suitcases of those who transported corals. Buy a bracelet or pendant made of shells, this is not considered a value.

I brought some small shells that I found right on the seashore. They were in my makeup bag, and next to them were nail scissors. And at the next customs office (and there are 3 of them) they stopped me ... and they took the scissors, but they didn’t even pay attention to the shells, of course I was a little shaken, but nothing. Maybe the shells were too small, or the scissors of the customs officers were more interested, not I know. But it's probably better not to risk it. Relax and enjoy.

*I want to drop!
I don’t know who was fined there, but we brought about a dozen small shells and a couple of pebbles / my weakness /.
Of course there is a ban! * after all, think for yourself - the whole of Hurghada will be taken away)))) *
and all obedient and shy citizens, naturally, having arrived at the airport under the threat of guides when getting off the bus, they throw out all this "precious" .. there are even such fenced-off buildings ... well, somewhere a meter by a meter .. here they throw it there ... I personally pulled out one beautiful one from there))))))

P.S.: everything that is packed in a suitcase will be safe and sound. and note - not a single comment, who was fined)))))))))) and with us, and we stood at the airport for about 2 hours before check-in - we couldn’t say goodbye to the guide - we didn’t open a single luggage ..

the guide will not advise. But if something is small, of no value, then you can. But large and beautiful, they will take it away and take a fine
аватар Shiny
In general ... at your own peril and risk! Ten people will pass quietly, and the eleventh (who you may well be :) will be spotted and fined :) Moreover, think for yourself, they are interested in finding something from you, the scars are rather big (from 500-1000 dollars depending from value) ... So if you have already decided, then hide it carefully! so that later after the ultrasound :) the suitcases would not be excruciatingly insulting ...

The Arabs gave me several different types of corals and shells and I left them in my room, I was afraid. But when I arrived in Kyiv, at home I found in the side pocket of my small backpack I found a lot of shells and corals that I just collected on the island. It was amazingly funny.

On our first visit, we did not try to bring anything, but the guide said that you can bring what you bought, but you can’t collect it at sea. And when we went for the second time, we bought 2 luxurious shells on the street. You know, such twisted notches on top. So, we come happy to the guide and show off ... And he is to us, what are you, nizayayaya. And the second guide says, you wrap them well with things, and pack them in a suitcase. We did just that. Driven :)
Don't know. maybe just lucky...
аватар terpsixora
By the way, the guide told us that the corals glow, but the shells do not. And we did not tightly wrap the suitcase (with film). Just closed it with a snake and that's it. And no one searched. And also, according to the law - either pay a fine and take it with you, or lay it out and fly away ... So there is a choice.

Why do you need ? Leave the inhabitants of the sea in their home. Millions of people go there. Everyone will take a little bit and - goodbye beauty! Why do you need dead coral? Coral is a living thing (not a plant!) Dead coral is a skeleton. Why do you need the bones of a dead creature in your house?! Sometimes they turn a blind eye to the export of small shells. But why do you?
