Kind! First, take a ride in the front seat on their minibus))) And, preferably, with the passage of the ring!

I join the previous speaker. Personally, in Egypt, I was very impressed by the number of minor damages on cars, to which no one even pays attention. Getting used to wings or tearing off a side mirror is a common thing, according to drivers, insurance companies do not even deal with such a trifle.

I wouldn't risk traveling on my own in a country like Egypt.
When we took an excursion to Luxor from Marsa, a guard rode with us on the bus with a guide and driver, and he had a machine gun hanging under his jacket. It was kind of comforting on the one hand, but strained on the other. And in all places where tourists gather, the guards are armed to the teeth. The situation is similar at checkpoints.
For your safety, don't skimp on this. Take a guide, they have it very cheap.

I don't think this is a very good idea. This is not Montenegro or Greece, where you go to see stunning landscapes, beautiful cities along the way. Most of the country is desert. Ride a few hours in the desert?!

It’s not worth going on your own, tourists, not fans of group trips, order an individual transfer, a car with a guide, even for a week. There are a lot of block posts and this can become a significant problem, because not everyone knows English and Russian.
аватар Avtomaxxx
I also thought about block posts. This is perhaps the main reason why you need to abandon this idea.
Even if you have a person who speaks the Egyptian language with you, the passage of checkpoints will be extremely gemorno. I'm already silent about the fact that you do not speak the language.
There is one awkward movement, and everyone lies face down on the asphalt.

Especially in the Sinai, where the whole desert is teeming with rebels, the passage of checkpoints is quite a responsible event.

20 years ago, I crossed the road in Cairo, in my opinion with 8-line traffic .... I still remember, mentally said goodbye to everyone .... As far as I remember, if I am in a taxi, I always sit in the back. With one of ours (for whom this is unusual), I won’t go along their roads, even if they pay

"Even if you have a person who speaks Egyptian with you" In Egypt, the Arabic language.
Regarding the question of the HARDWARE, judging by her last post, she is going to rest in Sharm, that is, ride around the Sinai Peninsula on her own - extreme IMHO.
So I think - all excursions can be taken individually, if it’s annoying to travel with a large group by bus, but it will still be more logical, since hardly anyone will run and look for you in the desert. Correctly, someone wrote about the tour being escorted by security and police groups, I remember after some kind of terrorist attack or disturbance in the region, we went to Luxor by bus with one pickup of machine gunners in front and behind, and at the pitstop for breakfast, we just walked away to take a picture from the institution, so the guys from the escort ran after us and demanded that we return to the group. And I also agree that this is not the country to make stops admiring the beauty when moving by car, the landscape is 95% the same there.

Judging by your login and photo, you are born in 1996 and a girl, 22 years old and have no shark experience in foreign travel. I would categorically not recommend you rent a car in Egypt, even if you are flying with a guy, a completely different mentality (at first they smile, if not according to their beliefs, then everything starts very sadly), driving style and police checkpoints (there are about 8 of them in Sharm over 35 km). From an economic and safe point of view, I would recommend taking trips from local TAs, they are guarded. For example, in December_2018 we took from local 5 in 1 for 25 dollars / person (Hadab 100 km from Sharm with a security guard on a MAN with a kung, a camel along the sea, a blue lagoon, quadrics, I liked it very much, not like in Sharm) for the whole day, 100 gave for 4 people and did not bathe, once again I repeat I strongly do not advise !!! Max taxis take $ 5 one way, you can negotiate for $ 6 in both directions for all taxis + 2-3 hours waiting for you, with payment after the return arrival, a minibus $ 1 for two. Taxi and minibuses are all blue and white !!!

First you need to answer the question - WHY do you need to travel around Egypt on your own in a rented car? Well, it makes absolutely no sense.
A poor, dirty, wild country. People with a big "hello", to put it mildly.
To any sights you can take an individual tour, a guide with a car. It's all quite inexpensive. And to ride on the dirty steppe or desert by yourself is such an entertainment.

alex714,
*In Egypt Arabic.* , official. In everyday life, the same Egyptian, as mentioned above. There is a difference between them. And I didn’t come up with this, but they themselves say so, that there are very big differences. Even their language is very different by region. By the way, when our people from the Internet try to memorize some Arabic words and then use them, the Egyptians smile very much at this and say that this is a completely different language .. I personally observed such a scene.

In my opinion, a childishly naive and equally stupid idea

Well, you need to understand that there are different dialects, for example, Arabic of Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria seasoned with French, and Egyptian Arabic is diluted with its local dialects and it is very difficult for them to understand each other if they communicate in their own dialects.
I will draw a parallel with China, they seem to communicate in the same language, but the Chinese from different provinces hardly understand each other, I ask "how do you communicate?", in response - with the help of hieroglyphs, that is, the meaning is the same, but it sounds each in his own way.

I don't see anything stupid in wanting to not be tied to a bus. There is experience of such trips abroad. However, judging by the comments, in Egypt it is better not to risk it. Thanks everyone for the advice :)

"I have experience of such trips abroad " - that's what I'm talking about, holy naivete.
All this experience for Egypt is multiplied by 0.

"Arabic of Tunisia" is a mixture of Italian, French, Berber and Arabic, the Tunisians themselves, just like the Egyptians, separate their language and separately classical Arabic.
аватар LindaLinda
Nastya, in Sharm El Sheikh, for example, I don’t see anything wrong with driving a car on my own, the traffic is quite calm. But if you mean moving from city to city, I wouldn't risk it.
аватар vlastelin_2005
To date, cars in Egypt are not rented to foreigners, this is done for security reasons.
аватар ollennka
Where does the infa come from, then foreigners are not given a car for rent?
аватар vlastelin_2005
ollennka ... this info from the hotel guide, because I asked him why I haven't seen a car dealership in recent years.
аватар ollennka
Well, hotel guides, of course, always only speak the pure truth)). And that insurance will not work if you don’t buy a tour from them, and that you need to note the voucher with them, otherwise you won’t fly home ...
аватар vlastelin_2005
ollennka ... I will not argue, tell me specifically at least one place where I could rent a car ... because I searched and did not find))
аватар ollennka
Here, please, rent for health.

ollennka ... it's good, you know how to use GOOGL))) ... and have you tried to rent a car on your passport? !! ))
аватар ollennka
And whose passport do I usually rent, for someone else, in your opinion? I book and pay through the site, I get a car at the airport.
аватар vlastelin_2005
ollennka ... it is not necessary to accept desirable as real)) ... it is possible to tell at once on the citizen of what state you do it? )))
аватар Pachok
Dear Lord:) Did you follow the link you were given? Are there any requirements for passports?
аватар ollennka
vlastelin_2005, Is this a comment for the sake of a comment? There are no restrictions on car rental for foreigners in Egypt, no one requires you to indicate citizenship on the site.
аватар vlastelin_2005
It is not necessary to give the desired for the truth)) ... just as every year they say that the Russians can already fly charters to Egypt.
I had only one request to the interlocutor to confirm the fact of renting a car documentary, but as expected, everything remains at the level of UAV UAV UAV)))
