places to store documents and money
Please share your experience on the safety of documents and money, in particular at the Sierra Hotel. Is it necessary to give passports upon arrival at the hotel or is a copy enough, the same for excursions?

About safes (electronic and mechanical).
They tend to be opened by unscrupulous personnel. There are special keys and codes for opening without your participation, sadly... At first I didn’t think about it. electronic safes):

Tatyana and I were pioneers, and we heard the showdown with our own ears.

we can say that it was a coincidence, but the situation was similar in Turkey with paid safes. I dealt with the administrator about the settlement (they didn’t want to settle until 15-30!), in my presence two Russian young ladies threw a tantrum about the loss of money (in the end they were returned money ..... FOR RENTING A SAFE (about $ 15)!
All cases are carefully hidden from others, the victims are taken to separate rooms, away from the reception.
The compatriots do not interfere, they are "in a positive mood" (as everyone advises), they came to rest, and not to fix the analysis. So if you lose money, you are left alone with your empty wallet.
So after the above, what happened to me

we carry money with us, we hide part of it in a suitcase under the lock - opening the locks is a more provable argument.
The suitcase inside has a zipper of the inner lining, unfastening it you will see guides for a folding handle (almost all modern suitcases), they have plastic parts, where a small stack of large bills folded in half easily enters. Passports can be stuck under the guides. "the bottom (walls) of the suitcase cannot be detected at all. I zip the zipper back and mask it with things, I fasten the suitcase with a lock. Safe for small money and small electronics.
You can use the advice of very "experienced" tourists, I cited it as an example:
"" in secret, you can hide money in sockets! Room-boy is unlikely to climb there and look for currency (in case the safe is not available or it breaks).
The main thing on the road is not to forget them until the next vacation!"

What can you say about the delivery of valuables at the reception?
аватар papa74
There are such services, money and documents are sealed in an envelope. I read several reviews that there were problems with such storage ..
аватар sealife
Well, you have to buy swimming trunks with pockets :)
аватар miki08
Well, you don’t need to go to swimming trunks, but just decide on a storage place, in the end, all suitcases have locks. Yes, I always kept my passports and not a large amount in a safe. But he hid the main one securely, leaving a laptop in the room all the time, it is a good safe in itself if you understand how. In general, in Egypt, these are single cases, but how lucky you are.

In Egypt, God had mercy on such a person (I will knock on wood 3 times). In Sierra, too, everything was fine. Initially, there was a problem with the encoding upon arrival. We entered your code, the safe closed, we enter the code to open it - ERROR is on in the window - an error. The safe does not open. And there are already money and passports. They called the manager with the head of security. They came, performed some actions, the safe worked, we signed the magazine and there were no further problems.
But in Bulgaria, in Golden Sands, 100 bucks were pulled out of the safe at the reception. Full out. At that time, in 2002, it was my monthly salary. I don't want anyone to experience this!

"it's a good safe itself if you figure out how"
But from this place in more detail, please :))))
аватар orhideya21
I would hide it under the battery, well, or in the drive (don't forget to grab the tweezers). :))

The answers brought back memories of comical cases with a stash (a classic that burned out in the oven, thrown away with the toilet bowl, etc.). And what about mobile phones on the beach if they are waterproof?
аватар miki08
This site is read not only by tourists. Laptops have a huge number of modifications, and if you are not very versed in this miracle of technology, contact a specialist, he will show you places where you can hide without disassembling, and God forbid damage the laptop.
аватар nataliestar
We always keep everything in a safe in the room. God was merciful. In Sharia countries, theft is a terrible crime, so I don’t think that the staff will deal with it. It is better not to take casual acquaintances into the room and not to leave valuables unattended on the beach (if there are a lot of "ours" in the hotel, foreigners do not suffer from theft)

If the question concerns the Sierra 4 * hotel (2 Savoy line), then we can say that the attendants there do not steal at all, so they are afraid to lose their jobs. We rested in February - and money and valuables were forgotten on the table, once they even forgot to close the safe - everything was in place (passports, money, gold). Just do not forget to leave on the table (permanently in a certain place) 1 dollar or at the rate of the local currency - everything will always be in order. And it's a wonderful hotel. And another important point - no one ever discusses - if you don’t want to have trouble with poisoning, don’t eat anything other than what they give on the territory of the hotel (everything is very strictly checked). They took a lot of medicines - none of them came in handy.

To ulya2010
Thanks for the encouraging information on Sierra 4*.
There is enough information about poisoning and what water to brush your teeth on the site. But is it really impossible to try strawberries in winter :(
аватар miki08
You can try strawberries, buy water and wash them, but you probably don't like the taste. Rare disgusting, although there are fruits, and even very decent ones.
аватар Zlata28
you have to understand - we are lucky :))
because (TTT) never had a problem
We leave everything valuable in the safe in the room.
everything that was left in it - everything was in stock

"" In Sharia countries, theft is a terrible crime, so I don’t think that the staff will deal with it "" - then the money evaporates, under the influence of the Egyptian sun ;)))
Be vigilant and do not tempt (with money) the already almost universally drinking, stealing........... Egyptians
аватар papa74
Here I read for laptops:
""I would hide it under the battery, well, or in the drive (don't forget to grab the tweezers)""
""if you are not very versed in this miracle of technology, contact a specialist, he will show you places where you can hide without disassembling, and God forbid damage the laptop""
And what about the theft of a laptop "stuffed" with money. This is "eggs in one basket." Moreover, only a netbook will fit into the safe, and it does not have disk drives by definition.
аватар papa74
You can put the phone in the safe, but the safe shields radio frequencies well - the phone is quickly discharged. You can turn it off and not worry. And get in touch with relatives in the evening, coming from the beach.
аватар miki08
There are locks for a laptop, read what it is on the internet. “In Sharia countries, theft is a terrible crime, so I don’t think that the staff will deal with it,” and you personally know what Sharia is. Stealing from the faithful is a sin, and "infidel dogs" do not fit under jurisdiction. In any nation there are flawed people, and religion has nothing to do with it in general.
аватар Kasja23
2 rara74 Applause of the public!
Let's speed up the process of requisitioning the property of infidels!

(This is to the call "Keep money in laptops")

To papa74 "then the money evaporates, under the influence of the Egyptian sun;)))

I, for example, never lost anything from the safe. Yes, and drinking and stealing Egyptians in the hotels where I stayed, I did not see it in my eyes.
Nevertheless, no one has yet canceled vigilance, and, of course, you should not shake money everywhere.
аватар papa74
fresh from Egypt (competitor site), sent the link in PM. I will quote:
""Be vigilant, because. cleaners (at least ours) can steal. A friend left a ring that was missing. We told the reception - the cleaner came and with a flick of the wrist found him in the bathroom, although we searched it 100 times, and the ring was not there. By the way, I have already read exactly the same story, but I don’t remember from whom.
аватар papa74
Drinkers, thieves, etc. There are Egyptians, and the closer to civilization, the greater their percentage. This is not advertised. Almost all of Naama Bay consists of drinking Muslims (although there are rare exceptions). Suggest who will refuse? While waiting for the shuttle-bass, they said this (this is 1.5 years ago, after that I don’t go to Naama) ...
In the hotel, from the reception desk to the cleaner, everyone will not refuse alcohol. Of course, no one will drink with you, but they will take it in the "glass" (and not throw it away, believe me). I talked with the guide and drank with him, everything is fine, from alcohol no one refused, especially from Beyliz, Khortytsi, Hennessy, etc ... They drank in the evening, referring to the fact that Allah does not see at night;)))
аватар miki08
papa74 Here is the answer about Sharia. It’s just that there is such a disease as kleptomania, and no matter how terrible the punishment, up to the death penalty, a person cannot be stopped.
аватар papa74
Well, I'm talking about the same thing. Everywhere you need to look both ways.
About Sharia and theft is a quote from the author nataliestar (12th post).
