It will be warm in Batumi. It's still closer to Turkey.

The weather is different, but you should not count on direct heat during this period. Maybe a little rain can drizzle and the sky can tighten with dots, and after 13 days the sun can peek through the clouds. A sea with waves, large pebbles on the beach (in Batumi, Kvariatti), there are, of course, places with sand, but there are fewer of them. We were in Georgia both in the summer and in May and in the fall (my husband often went there for work), or we were unlucky with the weather, but the locals say that more or less the weather settles down in August and by September it starts to act up again. In July, for example, we did not even try to sunbathe, because the weather was cloudy throughout the days of our stay, but we looked at nature. And on May this year, from a week-long stay, I even lay down on pebbles in a swimsuit twice, once I even plunged into the sea (there was 11 degrees of water), and in general the weather pleased me, it only rained for two days.

At the end of May, I swam and sunbathed in Sukhumi and Gagra, and in Batumi there is such a trick. In the morning you go to the beach, swim, it’s cloudless, and the locals say, here’s a cloud over the mountains, it will rain by lunchtime. And the cloud is so small, you won’t believe it in life. that it would change the weather. But by noon it was raining, and not weak, torrential.
The Batumi region is not in vain called "wet subtropics". Sukhumi region - "dry subtropics". less rain. But I loved September-October there. There are fewer people, less heat.
аватар Elenka08
alex45, you are right. It is this definition about the subtropics that I heard there several times. Everything is good in Batumi, and the food, and nature, and the city itself is now very pleasant to look at. But the weather can make meanness at any moment (I was in the first days of October, although I didn’t expect to swim, but lie down on the beach in the very * heat * around lunch. Alas, we walked in boots! Then in the 2nd half of June + 1st week of July. It would seem that it was the middle of summer. But last week I was on the beach 1 time, sitting in a T-shirt and looking at the sea. On the rest of the days there was not even a reason (And yet, many cafes and other entertainments start working around the middle of July! until the end of August-beginning of September. Georgians themselves call June not the season. It's somehow so strange ....
аватар alex45
That year we swam until the very departure after October 10th.
And the first time I visited Batumi in the middle of summer, still very young, out of 10 days - 7 rainy, or showers in the morning, or in the afternoon. Two pairs of shoes became sour, but still had a great rest. Sukhumi is much drier. In Gagra, my wife and I did not spend our honeymoon, but for half a month for sure. And how long ago it was, carefree youth -45 years ago !!!
аватар Elenka08
Yes, such an unpredictable Georgia ... you can swim after October 10, or you can be in boots and splash in puddles on October 4 ((But Sukhumi and Gagra now certainly cannot be compared with Batumi, Batumi now shines and shines.
аватар ollennka
Thanks everyone for the replies! We are going to Batumi, not Sukhumi. Well, let's take a chance.
аватар Elenka08
ollennka, in any case, the food, whether in the rain or in the heat, is invariably good))) and wine, of course) There on the street. Khimshiashvili built 3 new beautiful high houses. And apartments for rent, a very beautiful view around and they are right on the waterfront.
аватар Elenka08
here they are on the left
аватар alex45
I don't compare anything.
The Black Sea coast of the Caucasus is from Soviet times and memories from there. And my wife is from Chakva near Batumi.
And now, I'll find a place to rest! Caucasus and Georgia - this does not apply!
аватар ollennka
And yet, we’ll take a chance not at a height, but take a hotel on the beach))
аватар Elenka08
alex45, I meant that you are not comparing personally, but in general, in general. Previously, they always sounded as if in a * set *, I even had some kind of saying, I don’t remember. Some people asked me now, * have you been to Sukhumi? *, in the light of visiting Batumi, so to speak, I say that these are now sooo different things.
аватар Elenka08
And for some reason now Georgia manages like the UAE, I don’t understand .... I’m not talking about all sorts of Egypt and Turkey
аватар moy_contakt
Georgia, of course, is a colorful country, but in comparison, the same Batumi in 2013-2014 (my husband practically lived there, and I flew to him on occasion and without) and then 2016-2017 .... again everything falls into decay. Prices have risen significantly, and the service has remained at the same level. In May of this year, the main place of dislocation was in Kvariatti. The cost of living in this village is from 25$ per person or from 50$ per room. We were a big company and occupied the entire 4-storey hotel (maybe off-season, paid in bulk) and talked with the owners about this topic. And it’s strange to me why people pay such money without food, for very mediocre conditions (and we lived in a deluxe two-room suite right on the beach and it turned out that in season the price for this room is from 300 ye ...) well, by God, the room is in the very the average hotel in Egypt is an order of magnitude higher .... the food there is not cheap. flights are not cheap. I don’t understand who is ready to pay so much for this if there are no less colorful destinations, but at the same time cheaper and more comfortable. And someone is driving.
аватар ollennka
300 bucks for a room is somehow hard to believe. Is that the imperial suite))). I have seen the most expensive Radisson so far, there is a number of 150 dollars.
Calorie is not necessary)))).
аватар Elenka08
I don’t know about 300, but 100 for an apartment for 4-5 people, it’s easy in the summer in Batumi. I don’t know how to live with such a crowd .... But the end of May has its own +, since they don’t consider it a season, then a 1-room apartment can be + - for $ 30, the hotels will still be more expensive. I agree with moy_contakt, all the time I am puzzled by the question *who is going there now*, I myself would like to, but in the end I tend to Turkish-Egyptians. We only have a flight from Kyiv for about 200 euros + about 200-250 accommodation + meals. Here you have the UAE 5 stars pops up or Egypt for 10-11 days
аватар ollennka
I don’t know about everyone, I’m specifically going, because I haven’t been there yet, but I have been in Turkey, Egypt and the UAE. The term "service" I do not really understand what it includes. There is a sea, there are mountains, decent hotels, food and wine are delicious))) I have enough.
аватар Elenka08
I personally include in * service *, a purely subjective opinion: own beach, room cleaning, linen change, all kinds of detergents, safety. No need to * get food *, that is, you don’t have to think about whether you got to a good restaurant or not. And since we are tourists, we don’t know the city, you can run into anything (it happened. Outwardly it was a very decent institution, and khinkali ... it seemed that they got them from the permafrost. All this * service * can of course be found in good hotels, but there’s also the price.... I rented an apartment, I didn’t live in apartments for 100 years. And *pleasantly* surprised that this is still a residential building, where neighbors yell, cars honk in the yard, they can turn off the water, etc. How "I didn't think about it in advance. In addition, no one will clean and change towels in the apartment, and so on. There may not be any at all. ((
аватар ollennka
Well, for apartments, yes, I agree, on vacation I don’t want to clean up, wash dishes and cook, so I don’t consider apartments, in principle, regardless of the country. But the neighbors and in a decent hotel can get all sorts of things))) there were precedents.

With the growth of tourists from Russia, the service began to improve fundamentally. Georgians are happy to wait for the Russians. After all, our tourist is fundamentally different from the usual Azerbaijanis, knapsacks, Armenians. You just need to know those hotels that try to work according to European standards. And it is not necessary to look for them in the metropolis - Batumi. There is also a resort Kobuleti, where by the way the beach is made of small pebbles, and Batumi can be reached in 20 minutes. Turkey, Egypt, of course, are good if you are going to lie on the beach or by the pool with an incomprehensible booze (you can’t call it wine, etc. if you drank real Georgian wine). Georgia is still an unknown land for many, but who has been here ... YES, and not only by the sea, the country is interesting. Mineral waters of Tskhaltubo are unique in their nature in the treatment of many diseases (joints, back, skin and many others). Therefore, the potential is huge and the service will rise to the desired level. Yes, there are already quite good examples of this.

I'll check the cost of the room. Standard double room with own bathroom from 50 ye without meals. Since there were a lot of us, they occupied the entire hotel and my husband and son got a room on the top floor, they had it designated as a suite with a sea view. They consider Kvariati to be cooler than Batumi, there are many hotels right on the seashore. Their price tag is not cheap. Our room could accommodate up to 6 people. The owners said that in the season this room is 300 ye .... It is also not far from Kvariati to Batumi. The beach there is nicer than Batumi (smaller pebbles). The Turkish border is 3 km away. By service, I understand the presence of dressing rooms and toilets on the beach (there weren’t any in Batumi), there are no sunbeds (it’s difficult to lie on pebbles), rare cafes have them. Go into the sea because of the pebbles, it is very difficult, and if there are also waves .... There is nothing to do with children there. The food is good that my husband’s work took care of it and we always ate well and tasty, but when we ourselves went and looked for a place to eat, I ran into such bullshit a couple of times ...

This year, we were unpleasantly surprised when we climbed up to the observation deck, which is located on a tower with the Georgian alphabet with dirty glasses ... And so much so that I didn’t even take pictures. When asked why, a strange answer - there is no such technique + height .... That is, these glasses have not been cleaned since the day they were built. Then lakes with singing fountains became such a swamp. And then feces spilled out there and the stench was so strong that it hurt my eyes. We hit the mountains perfectly, looked at nature and were in places where they don’t take excursions. And all this of course blocked many moments. We even went to Turkey twice for shopping :) we had fun, but we definitely won’t go there ourselves, unless we bring our husband there again for work.

There are no hotels in Batumi with their own beach, or what?
аватар Elenka08
As far as I understand, even the Sheraton does not have its own beach. I have not seen a closed area along the entire line of the sea.
аватар ollennka
Pichalka...
аватар Elenka08
moy_contakt, there are sun loungers and umbrellas, but without mattresses. Well, let's say, not along the entire length of the beach, but in separate sections. I agree about the toilets, they don't exist. In any case, when I was in 20114, they were not.
аватар moy_contakt
There are sunbeds at 2-3 cafes on the beach. For a 10-kilometer beach line (to mine, that's how much is declared in Batumi) it's just a drop in the ocean. And in July, I didn’t watch anymore. There are no hotels with their own beach in Batumi! Why did we settle in Kvariati? because there guest houses are built almost on the shore, those like their own beach. In the morning, someone from our company was doing yoga on the beach, someone was jogging. And someone just went out in the morning before breakfast to inhale the air of the sea, to look at the dolphins and the sea wrapped in a blanket. In Batumi, this would be unrealistic. All buildings, including hotels, are located in front of the embankment. Toilets on the embankment not only did not appear, but one of the two also closed ... Bicycles for rent were killed after several years of operation. As it all gradually falls into decay.

So, reading these reviews, I was once again convinced that you can’t drag me to rest on the Black Sea coast of Georgia now! Moreover, the son drove his car through the Crimea to Sukhumi, his impressions and photos strongly argue against!
As there were Georgians under Soviet power, they have remained - they will not add up their price. Nature, and in my youth I traveled the whole Caucasus, except for Azerbaijan, I saw Georgian beauties, I won’t see anything new. My wife pampers me with Georgian dishes, she knows how!
NOW NO ARGUMENTS in favor of rest in the Caucasus for me, of course!
аватар alex45
Elenka08! If I posted a photo of the Venetian Lido (i.e. beach) or Nice, there are no hotel beaches there either, it’s not customary to divide the coast between hotels there. Yes, it’s like that almost everywhere in Western Europe.
Georgians, Mabut, are following the European path, as they think!

As for food prices. Of course, if you cook yourself, then you can eat sparingly, but ... I don’t like cooking in principle, and if on vacation there is a chance that I will have to do this, then I won’t consider such a vacation. In pebbles, on average for three (husband, me and son 11 years old) for lunch, they averaged 75-90 GEL (1 GEL = 11 UAH). This is a standard set of Georgian dishes, no frills, those eat everything. We thought that maybe we need to look for another place, but we have been to different establishments, but it didn’t work out cheaper. And taking into account the fact that sometimes the face of the institution (beautiful environment, outwardly not at all drawn to an eatery) did not at all correspond to the quality of cooking at high prices .... Fortunately, breakfasts and dinners were organized by the employer. We tried to break through the places with the locals, but the prices were about the same everywhere. But in the end, people go to Georgia for delicious national food! I think that for Georgia such a cost is unreasonably high.
