Greece. We can't make a choice. Can you help with advice?
We want to go to Greece with our 12-year-old daughter, but we can’t make a choice. Crete or Halkidiki. I also heard about Zakynthos. Please advise. After all, on each island there is probably the best place and hotel that matches the price and quality. Thanks

Good afternoon, if you want to combine relaxation with a rich excursion + beautiful nature + sandy beaches, this is Halkidiki. If you are okay with a not very good entrance to the sea, but you want to see the island where European civilization was born, this is Crete ..)) And you can also go to Zakynthos, but probably already as a second trip. The first one is probably better to start with Halkidiki or Crete))).

Yes, both directions are very interesting, but I prefer Crete purely out of personal love. I don’t know exactly how from Russia, but you can fly from Ukraine to Halkidiki in winter if you look at the mainland, since prices are lower, the climate favors visiting many attractions. There are also places in Crete with excellent beaches and a wonderful entrance to the sea, such as the Rethymno region and the village of Georgopolis. There is an excellent hotel for families with children Pilot Beach 5 *. You can also safely consider Malia, there are also good beaches and an entrance to the sea, for example, Malia Beach, Malia Bay hotels, Neon Hotel 2 * apartments are very affordable and of a good standard. In Agios Nikolaos there are also good options in the form of the Miramare hotel complex - a very beautiful bay and awesome landscapes, a small pebble beach 100 meters away. From excursions you can visit Santorini, the Cave of Zeus - it will be very interesting for you and your child. The Cretan evening is also a memorable event. The Palace of Knossos is also a place that deserves respect, and which will be interesting for a child who is at least a little fond of mythology. In general, my opinion is Crete, and Halkidiki to eat in the winter, after the New Year.

Allvi - do not add or subtract), everyone wrote correctly. On Crete, I really love Rethymnon, it is not for nothing that it is called "dry Venice". What cozy streets there are, how many shops, fish taverns. I rest my soul there. There is a very good hotel on the outskirts of Rethymno 5 * AQUILA RETHYMNA BEACH / and you can still find a thousand options for every taste and budget.

People, I'll forgive your forgiveness, but why did the world come together like a wedge in Halkidiki? Why do all travel agencies only do what Halkidiki offers? I was there for a week or so, only because the plane flew to Thessaloniki. If not for the plane, I would not have stayed in Halkidiki.
Another week we rode a car in the Peloponnese, that's where the "rich excursion". And what about Halkidiki? In Meteora, except to go and then 3 hours one way. Of course, travel agencies take you to the Petralona cave, Ouranoupolis, Thessaloniki, Edessa. But! All these sights, compared with the sights of the Peloponnese, did not stand next to each other.
We, traveling through the Peloponnese and Halkidiki in one trip, made a "group conclusion" that Halkidiki is not Greece. This is a branch of the Crimea. We were very unhappy with the fact that we had to be in Halkidiki for a whole week. And although we had an individual tour, we still took housing and air from TO. How these Chalkidiki praised us! At first, we didn’t “get stuck” there for a little 2 weeks. Thank God that we were smart enough to take for 7 days. Peloponnese.
The sea in Halkidiki is good, you can’t say anything, sand, pines. But! Then you need to choose Croatia, because in Croatia I liked the sea even more ...

Elenanik38, I wrote above to make sure that you just understand that there are people who were extremely dissatisfied with the nature, views and sights of a particular region, Halkidiki, and at the same time, visited other parts of Greece. The comparison is far from in favor of Halkidiki. I have not been to the islands and I do not have hotel catalogs, but as a tourist, I would not recommend Halkidiki if you want to see the sights of Greece, really beautiful nature, mountains straight from the sea and so on.
If you are looking for a calm, measured rest on a sandy beach, then Halkidiki is suitable)))
I just feel cheated - so all the managers of these Halkidiki praised. But in reality, it's empty. Deeply IMHO

To each, as they say, his own!
Again, I will express the opinion that Halkidiki is beautiful nature, sea, beaches, relaxation, service (by the way, higher than in Croatia, definitely), PRICES. History, sights - this is not Halkidiki (except Athos). The sights are at a distance, and from Pelloponnese, and from Pieria, they are much closer to them. Well, especially Pelloponess, a solid history of Greece. But, nevertheless, it is better to combine beach and sightseeing holidays in Halkidiki, at least in terms of prices more affordable. This is solely my personal opinion.

The budget of the trip is undoubtedly a very important thing!
But, judge for yourself: they tell you, you can go to the South Coast for X$, or you can go to Skadovsk for X-10%$
Will you choose Skadovsk? Unlikely. You know that in Skadovsk it is several times worse than in the South Coast. And if everyone just tells you-Skadovsk - that's fine, without mentioning the South Coast at all, because it's more expensive there. And you won't know that you were even deprived of the chance to see the South Coast.
It doesn't matter how much more expensive Skadovsk is, it doesn't matter where the nature is not so hot. No, well, if you compare it with Shostka, it's great in Skadovsk. But, if from the South Coast?
I'm just surprised that representatives of travel agencies do not mention the Peloponnese at all, as if it does not exist at all. The choice is given only between Halkidiki and Crete, well, Rhodes sometimes flashes by. Abidna)))
Here people later, having visited Halkidiki, sincerely believe that they were in Greece. I thought we were home...
By the way, our expenses were the same, both in Halkidiki and in the Peloponnese. Didn't feel any price difference. Why is it more expensive (except for air) and how much?
I'm just thinking about Crete myself, but due to the fact that it is heavily "soared", just like Halkidiki, I'm just afraid to fly already. And if you can escape from Halkidiki, then from the island it is much more problematic)))

If not difficult, compare the Peloponnese with Crete. nature and sights. Service/Infrastructure/Category of hotels - it doesn't matter.
I would be grateful to the connoisseurs of Greece!
Elenanik38, sorry for asking a question in your topic. But the answer, I think, will be interesting to you too ;-)

And Chersonesus, in your opinion, how? is there anything to see?

No, it's better to go to Greece ;-)

Download in good quality on ex.ua a documentary film - The most beautiful corners of the planet. Greece / Visions of Greece / (2002)
There, all the shooting is from a helicopter, for a couple of seconds per attraction, but almost everything in Greece, both insular and mainland, is worth seeing. A very beautiful film!
From a bird's eye view - simply indescribable! There are Halkidiki and Crete. I just fell in love with this film (in general, the whole series of films about different countries is wonderful)! I hope this will also help you make your choice. And you will have a very pleasant and useful time!

Crete is far from Halkidiki. But it all depends on where you "sit". Well, we ended up in a place with a bad entrance to the sea, we only went on excursions with a "Russian" guide and that's it, then like Crimea. I traveled 1700 km myself in Crete. It is extremely diverse, especially south and north in terms of beaches. And the beauty there is beyond description. I was also in Rhodes, and also super, but completely different. Reviews are, I can not describe in a nutshell. Now we fly either to Corfu or Kos. We love to travel, but we love Greece very much! Have a nice trip

I like Crete, and it's good everywhere on the islands!

saliani, we drove more than 5000 km by car across mainland Greece on a car rented in Greece (that is, this is a "clean" mileage in the country without a road from / to Ukraine). We looked at the country perfectly, without any guides (except that they took audio guides). We looked at the country on our own. But the whole Peloponnese, of course, was not mastered, only its central and northern part. There were both in places that were very popular (Delphi, Olympia, Meteora ...), and in various places that were not promoted (for example, a narrow gauge railway in a gorge, several caves in the Peloponnese) - after that, in Halkidiki, all that remained was to look at the pictures in your camera on the beach )))
We didn't end up in a bad place, we traveled EVERYTHING in Halkidiki. This, believe me, is much more than any package tourist "rolls off" on all excursions. There, after the Peloponnese, it is depressing and dreary. Starting from a very miserable souvenir with annoying sellers to dull views from the car window. You know, when you go and it's so boring that all the passengers are sleeping. And the sea, just, was cool, and the coast, and entering the water and the beach ...
This cannot be taken away from Halkidiki.
If I had not painted the beauty of Halkidiki BEFORE the trip (including on the forums), then such a negative sediment would not have remained))))

saliani, but if Crete were compared with the Peloponnese, and not with Rhodes or Halkidiki. How? How diverse nature is. Are there many mountains, gorges, waterfalls, well, something so natural, interesting? Antiquity, probably, as everywhere in Greece, is in abundance. But, is there anything out of the ordinary? And, if not difficult, how expensive ferries to neighboring islands are (not excursions, but ferries, we travel on our own).
Have you been to a ski resort? They say that even during the snow season (?!) you can catch it, but I haven’t seen a report with photos on the Internet yet ...
If you don't mind, of course)
Thanks in advance)

Well, when was Greece a ski country? By the way, there are interesting tours that combine holidays in Halkidiki in hotels with a good SPA, excursions and skiing in Bansko. What's bad? One minus, a 2-entry visa needs to be opened. But it's not a problem.

My personal love is Crete. But I began to discover Greece for myself from Athens and until now the Acropolis for me is one of my favorite places in the world.
Just if this is your first trip to Greece and you are interested in the historical part, then start with the Athenian Riviera and nearby places. From there you can go to the Peloponnese - close, excursions are the same. You can also go to Delphi with Meteors - but that's far away. And also on a cruise on three islands - I love it very much, I've been twice.
Crete - there are no less historical monuments and an island of extraordinary beauty. Excursion rich. And a hotel with a good beach is not a problem to find. I am for the Rethymno region and the surrounding area.
And if you just need a good hotel with a convenient beach, then choose any region of Greece and just read the description of the hotels.
In Greece, it is interesting everywhere, believe the experienced ;-)

allvitour, don't tell anyone that Greece is not a ski country ;-)
They have ski resorts since the 30s of the 20th century, about a dozen ...
If TO somewhere does not have tours and charters, then the country does not become less skiing)))
It is certainly more skiing than Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria.
Not Austria, of course, but not Slavske either. If not for the almost accomplished default, Greece would have converted both Kalavryta and Pelion. And on Parnassus (this is where Delphi) is not bad even now. Friends were and they liked it, although expensive for that service.
Thanks to all)

I asked about the hot-spot in Crete, but after googling, I realized that he was in Cyprus. I constantly confuse
Question removed)

I'm not saying that the country is not skiing at all, but that if you go skiing, then not to Greece. Well, it's only a patriot or a person madly in love with Greece who will go there to ride. You yourself perfectly understand which resorts are more relevant and popular. Again, the question of price quality is relevant here.

If I loved skiing, I would go))))))

see Crete and the Salut Club hotel (Russian animation) Creta Princess.
Everywhere has its beauty and features. As in Halkidiki, and in any other place.

I would choose my favorite Crete. Pilot Beach was advised here - I confirm, a very good hotel!
Zakynthos is also a good island, there is more vegetation, but less attractions.
