Car rental in Greece
Please tell me what you need to pay attention to when renting a car? What are the best conditions for renting a car? I heard that you need cash on a bank card, which is blocked for the duration of the car rental, is it true? If there is no bank card, is it possible to rent a car? How profitable is rent than to take excursions?

A credit card is your account, it can only be blocked by a bank at your request. You can rent a car without a card. In Greece, "contact parking" is common, that is, scratches and dents are in the order of things. You need to pay attention to whether the insurance will work in this case (usually, if the rental price is 30-40 euros / day, it does not work).

I agree with nadya_gorizont, another tip is to rent a car from the operator, from the host. For example, in Greece, many hotels offer Beleon Tours. This is a Greek company, employees speak Russian.

nadya_gorizont, I correctly understood that another 30-40 euros, for scratches or something else, will you have to pay extra? And if there are already damages, how to fix them?

toxic, look, if you rent a car, the cost of this rental includes car insurance. And you need to read the insurance contract very carefully. If the rental is inexpensive 30-40 euros per day, then 99.9% of the insurance contract states that in case of minor damage to the car (up to 500-600 euros), the client returns the cost of the damage on his own.
That is, Nadia meant that if someone touches your car a little, then you will need to pay for painting the bumper, for example.
But if the insurance contract states that in case of minor damage, the insurance company covers the costs, then you do not have to pay.
Typically, with such insurance, the cost of renting a car starts from 50-60 euros / day.

So, I took a car in Crete :-) I tell you:
1. It is better to take a small car, the roads are mountainous, and in cities the streets are narrow, gasoline is expensive and it happens that it simply is not there.
2. When registering a lease, the term thereof is taken into account. The more days, the cheaper the rent. It is important.
3. When concluding a rental agreement, look at the conditions of car insurance. Basically, in Greece, insurance is included in the rental price, but there is a franchise. In our case, it was 150 euros. During an accident (I drove into someone else's car), the guys from the insurance bureau arrived, figured it out in 10 minutes, we paid the deductible and drove on. Auto took Hyundai i-10. And Suzuki Jimmy. Got into an accident with a Hyundai. The rental price was 27 euros per day for a week. Franchise 150 euros, as I said. Jimmy cost 40 euros per day.
4. Nobody blocks any money on the card. You pay the rent, take the car and drive.
5. In Crete, renting a car is more profitable than excursions. Since the island is small and everything is nearby.

Viltis and Durden, thanks for the recommendation. Everything has grown together with me both with Greece and with http://www.eavtoprokat.ru. I am so happy about this) Indeed, it turned out that for 2 weeks the car was cheaper for us. At first they wanted to take for 7 days. Then we thought, and decided not to trifle. We went to Corfu, and the most inexpensive option there turned out to be a mini Hyundai i10. Gave 218 Euros. It comes out to about 15 a day. For us it is quite tolerable. Regarding the blocking of money on the card, we did not have anything like that. Indeed, sit down and go. I advise everyone not to bother about the car. Book online and don't be afraid of anything) Have a great holiday everyone!

I also use the services of www.eavtoprokat.ru. Great guys. To what Vika_Lusenko said, I can add the following: the site has a very convenient form for searching for suitable cars according to the parameters you specified. Just indicate the desired country, city and place where you want to pick up your car (airport, central region, etc.). The rental price includes unlimited mileage, road tax, local value added tax, theft and accident insurance, as well as 24/7 support and assistance if something goes wrong along the way. Try it, everything is very simple and fast.

Hello.
I want to warn tourists from renting a car with SIXT.
On August 22-27, 2015 we rented a car from this company. Location - Kallithea, Chalkidiki. We ordered the CCMR class and specifically specified which cars are included in this class. The answer was that Pegeout 208 and VW Polo. On the spot, we were given a car of a lower class - Pegeout 207 with a mileage of 100 thousand km. We did not argue and swear, we drove this car. By the way, according to the good Greek tradition, the aunt from the office was 20 minutes late for the meeting. (we took the car from the office, arriving by bus).
On the 4th day the car broke down (engine overheating), we barely got to the hotel. The next day the car was replaced with an Opel Corsa with 150,000 km. Unfortunately, adventures did not leave us and we hit the engine crankcase on a stone on the side of the road. It's my fault, I didn't notice this stone. Knowing that this is not included in the insurance, I mentally prepared to part in a more or less round sum. (this happened near the service, so the tow truck was not called, but the rest

Wow. And we have just returned from Greece, where we rented just in SIXT. They dashed off 2000 km across Greece: both the mainland and the Peloponnese peninsula, and on the ferry they were transported to 2 islands: Corfu and Zakynthos. Full delight! The car was brand new BMW 116 diesel, mileage only 5300 km. Now I’m just describing my experience in detail: all the nuances, features, tricks and life hacks! Everything is here: http://www.alexzimin.com/arenda-avto-v-grecii-afiny.html There will also be a full description of our route, in which in 10 days we saw almost all the most interesting things in Greece :)
