Friends! We are going to go to Greece as part of 5 adults and a one-year-old child for a week at the end of May. Is it worth it to bother with an independent trip or surrender to the clutches of travel agents? ;)) Where is the most convenient way to get from Kyiv? But to be beautiful. We are planning to rent a car. I would be grateful for any advice (except not to take the child and choose another time for the trip)

I won’t tell you about mainland Greece, but about the islands
Santorini is beautifully expensive there is something to see you can get on ferries to many other islands
for example Mykonos, Ios, Milos, Folegandros or Crete
There is something to see in Rhodes, a large selection of hotels for different budgets, you can also get to Santorini by ferry, near the island of Karpathos with completely virgin beaches, Kos, Kalymnos, Symi and also by ferry you can swim to Turkish Marmaris and Bodrum
Kos is slightly smaller than Rhodes, but if you travel by ferry, hotels will be cheaper than in Rhodes and Santorini

The end of May, as an experienced in Greece, I would recommend Crete or Rhodes, as you plan to swim and there are plenty of interesting things there. Undoubtedly, the Cyclades are very interesting, including Santorini BUT without a yacht it will be very costly to jump from island to island, plus the weather takes its toll at the end of May, it may still not be sickly storming in the Cyclades, I would recommend the Cyclades in late August, early September and on a yacht.

I would advise you to go to Lagomandra. But take a beach hotel (there are two of them). Child free, two meals a day. At the end of May the water is +21-22 degrees. There is a swimming pool. The bottom of the sea is sandy, shallow near the shore. Very beautiful hotel, delicious food, pine trees on the beach, many flowers. By car you can drive 6 km to Neo Marmaras and 8 km to Nikiti, to the market and shopping.

Viking_Nikolya is not so expensive if you choose a base island for traveling by ferry between the islands, for example, Kos Rhodes Santorini, in the summer there is a large selection of shipping companies that carry out ferry transportation between the islands and you can find very reasonable prices, you can take a ferry from Kos to Santorini for 25 euros sail in economy class

I advise you to go to Crete. Was at the end of May. The weather was great. During the day it is hot, but sultry, in the evening it is comfortable, a light tippet on the shoulders was just right. There is no large influx of tourists. We took a package tour from "Mouzenidis" (mono operator in Greece). Renting a car in Crete is not a problem. If you are going to travel a lot, take a package based on breakfast. There is a lot to see in Crete.

Vika284 I went by ferry if you take it in advance, it’s not expensive + on each of the islands you need to take housing, the most budgetary one is 3 or 4 lines from the sea and from the ferry pier (approximately 4 or 5 km along rocky terrain, and this is a serpentine road + heat).

Viking_Nikolya My friends and I last year when I arrived in Santorini, we went to one on the island of Folegandros, everything was budget and almost everything was on foot and we found a budget hotel without prior booking
I have traveled by ferry to many islands over the past 3 years

Dear friends, what is "on each island"?! People go FOR A WEEK, they go with a LITTLE CHILD (no matter how brave Irina is): the child’s home routine and travel schedule are a huge difference. What is Santorini like? With a ferry in round trip mode and sailing ONLY time of about 10 hours?! Irina, choose through tophotels or another service a normal hotel near the airport of arrival (God, how wonderful Aegean Blue was at one time in Nea Kallikratia, they ruined everything!) - up to 70 km from the port, and you (and the baby!) will be happy . And you will have time to Santorini, you have to fly there in September, for the famous Santorini tomatoes and for wine on raisins.

Vika284 Subject: We are going to go to Greece as part of 5 adults and a one-year-old child at the end of May. About tracks and speech does not go.
Santorini is not a big island with a beautiful bay and a view from it and that’s all, there are a number of islands that, in their history, will be worse, for example, Paros, Antiparos, Mykonos, Kythnos, and the island of Delos is generally like the Greek Pirogovo near Kiev. Delos Island is a museum of ancient monuments and temples, and back in BC, the Greeks and Sparta agreed on peace and built a common temple there.
P.S.
From Santorini to Folegandros, 20 miles at the most, of course, it will be budgetary)))

Viking_Nikolya thanks for "enlightening" the islands and distances)))
"The tracks are out of the question." we read the question "We are planning to rent a car. I would be grateful for any advice (except not to take the child and choose another time for the trip)"
After reading from Iren48 her cycle of stories about Sri Lanka and the last stories about Crimea, I hope after these trips she would like traveling around the Greek islands or one island
аватар Viking_Nikolya
Vika284 Iren48 did not write anything about pushing on foot. Driving and walking are two different types of transportation.

Viking_Nikolya you are infinitely right

By the way, the main question was - how to get to the Greeks. Do it yourself or with a travel agency. If the following conditions are met: there is experience in making independent trips, someone from the group speaks Greek (ideally and not necessarily) or English (and this is almost mandatory), there is all the information about the place and the hotel (food, beach features, "checkpoint yard around the clock" or "uninhabited island", then, of course, on your own. You just need to carefully take care of the plane and round tickets with their dates, times and payments. The rest are technical issues.

The Greeks about prices have some cyclicality from year to year. The coming year is expensive. So, if you want to save money, then organize everything yourself. For example, the cheapest offer on Musica, which suited me (two-room something near the sea) cost from 210,000 rubles for four for 2 weeks .. I ordered everything myself. Apartment with two bedrooms plus kitchen living room with sofa bed. Plus tickets. RUB 145,000 A very significant difference. Moreover, in the case of Muzyk, it would have been an apartment with one bedroom and a bunch of shortcomings, and through Bukin I ordered an apartment with a rating of more than 9.

Plus to the expenses (and, accordingly, - a minus from the pocket of vacationers - the daily tax on staying in Greece, introduced this year. A trifle, but it inspires. Sadly, the Greeks will have to be abandoned ... There are still good places in the Mediterranean.
аватар Irina0709
The tax for apartments is only 0.5 euros / day per room, i.e. 3.5 euros per week - is that a lot?
At the end of May, I advise Crete or Rhodes, where you can definitely swim.
Self-tourism is great, we ourselves have been traveling this way for a long time, but for this there must be a desire and someone must work diligently: "catch" tickets at a good price, find and book comfortable and inexpensive accommodation, find a normal rental car and order a car to the airport ( you are with a child). If your company has such a person, great, otherwise go to the MOT.

Ir, I’ll put in my 5 kopecks, if you choose on your own and on Crete (you definitely buy at the end of May), definitely look for housing near the matala beach. If you are suddenly interested in Crete, write in a personal, I will tell you everything in detail;)
аватар ollennka
Considering that the company is large, it is more profitable to rent an apartment on your own than to live in a hotel with vouchers.
аватар sp_kushneruk
Dear friends, I received a number of questions about the amount of tax (daily :-(() for staying in Greece Please look at Mouzenidis, I'm afraid of becoming Robinovich, performing Caruso. The whole point is that it depends on the category of the hotel - in the “fives” they will fight quite noticeably) Yu and in the “twos and below - 50 euro cents a day. Taking into account the fact that, for a variety of reasons, in general, holidays in Greece, as I figured, have become over the past three years 15 above, thoughts of alternatives arise as Greece begins to lose its financial advantages.
аватар Irina0709
There is a tourist tax in many European countries, including the Mediterranean ones: Italy, Spain.
As a person who has been traveling to Greece every year for the past 9 years, I can say for sure that holidays in this country have not risen in price, of course I'm talking about the euro.
As for the places in Crete to be able to swim, ie. in bays where the water warms up faster. Villages: Agia Apostoli near Chania and good infrastructure, Bali village, Agia Pelagia. I do not recommend Matala - a very specific place :))
аватар AllOverTheWorld
Tourist tax is levied in most European countries, even in Ukraine.....
and prices will rise ... as will the exchange rate ....
аватар sp_kushneruk
Dear colleagues, you are either being disingenuous or relaxed this weekend. When I talk about this innovation - about the daily tax, I'm talking about WHICH PREVIOUSLY, BEFORE 2018, WAS NOT IN GREECE in any form. The instant demonstration of awareness that there is an appropriate tax in European countries is clear to me as a psychological act. But the conversation is about something else: a trifle appeared, which was not previously in GREECE.
As for the cost of travel - they have increased. And not only in the Greek direction. many years of experience of regular trips with records of all circumstances, including financial ones, allow us to speak about this with all certainty. I still remember the times when, during the breaks of lecturing by my Greek student, I could travel all over Greece for mere pennies, sorry - drachmas, with food, housing and other things. After 2000 - a sharp jump due to the transition to the Euro, and then an inexorable creeping increase in value. Including travel services. I've been going to Greece for the "last" 19 years...

my god....
the grandmother remembered like a divko bula (c)
I remember the times when the baggage allowance for international flights was up to 60 kg .. and they didn’t weigh hand luggage at all .....
what is it for)?
this is all bullshit....
our beloved Irene asked .... TA or not TA ... about the tour tax, I think she already understood .... and he (tax) is far from a significant part of the trip budget ....
аватар Irina0709
sp_kushneruk, you really flooded the topic, look for an alternative and good luck to you))

Girls, do not get out and do not assign functions to yourself wow! what moderators. The people have picked up Clinton habits. Don't say a word, don't stroke your knee...! Trouble...
аватар Irina0709
In essence, look where the budget tickets are from you and buy, later they will only be more expensive. If you buy Rhodes, you need to look at the villages on the east coast: Faliraki, Kolymbia, Stegna.
аватар agent_borabora
If the budget and time are unlimited, then organize it yourself.
Regarding the "beautiful" in Greece - this is a purely subjective opinion, for someone the burnt-out ash is nicer than the green rocks.
It is more convenient to get from Kyiv by plane to Athens, Thessaloniki or Heraklion.
аватар Iren48
Good morning everyone! Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to intervene in your disputes before :))) But now the picture is more or less clear. Thanks to all!
аватар Kira222
It may be late, but I’ll get into a dispute: such a big company with a small child and for a short time, of course, apartments. There are usually more flights, and therefore tickets are cheaper, to the mainland of Greece. Halkidiki, at least, there is sand and perhaps the sea will warm up at the end of May. And book it all yourself. Good luck!
аватар Iren48
Good day everyone! I report. There are no direct flights to the islands. We even decided to take a chance and fly with transfers. But there are practically no convenient connections. What I found - Athens-Chania - an hour and a half docking. There is an opinion that we will not have time to go through passport control, pick up luggage and check in. The mainland remains. Halkidiki, 600 km from Athens, is not an option. Is the Peloponnese left? What say you experts?
