Christmas in Budapest - what to see in 2.5 days?
We are going to Budapest for Catholic Christmas (we will be in the city from the afternoon of December 23rd until the morning of December 26th). I ask for advice:
- How to manage time rationally? What can and should be seen in 2.5 days?
Where is the Christmas market in Budapest?

Try to take a boat ride on the Danube in the evening to the sounds of a waltz... Visit the Széchenyi baths... We also really liked Campona with the aquarium...

Christmas markets were seen in several places: near the Cathedral of St. Matthias, near the Nugati station, at the foot of the Fisherman's Bastion.
To the above, I can add, visit the Cathedral of St. Matthias and the Fisherman's Bastion. If you're lucky, you can take a tour of the Parliament building. You can walk along the picturesque Art Nouveau Andrássy Avenue. There you can also ride along the historic yellow metro line. You should also visit the baths. In a simpler way - Lukacs or Szechenyi. If you want to experience luxury - the Gellert bath.
You can go to Saint Andre. There, visit the Marzipan Museum, see the Serbian church. The fair is up the whole street.
Or drive to Gödöllő from Budapest 30 km to the northeast. Here is the Grasszalkovich Palace or the royal one - a baroque masterpiece. At one time, the Austrian Empress Elisabeth loved to visit it. In the palace, the restored interiors of the imperial chambers, as well as the palace chapel of St. John of Nepomuk. In the southern wing of the palace you can see the baroque theater. The palace is surrounded by a park. In the center of the park is a statue of the Empress. You can look into the city museum, located in the oldest surviving building in the city.

taleuk, thanks for the advice! Does the Danube freeze in December? Where does the ship depart from? Probably better in the dark?
IaroslaviSHna, thanks for the suggested options! Very interesting - I will read books about these places.
Are baths and museums open during Christmas?
And further. Are there any tourist passes for visiting attractions? Where is the best place to buy them? I know that there are 3-day passes for the subway...

With shopping in Budapest, so-so - the people are not rich. Shopping centers in bulk, the same Arena. Basically everything decent in the center, around Vaci street. In terms of killing time, it is worth walking through the old city on foot - there are stunningly beautiful places. In terms of bread and circuses, be sure to visit the Sir Lancelot restaurant http://sirlancelot.hu/ - amazing medieval (almost) cuisine and performance. On Christmas Day it may be necessary to reserve tables in advance.

Doctor_Alex, thanks for the information! Unfortunately, there will be no time to kill time - it seems that in order to have time to cover the uncovered as much as possible, we will move by walking... But I always want to eat - I will look at the proposed restaurant;)

You are welcome. To Google books with Yandex to help. For example, for the query "Gellert bath" Yandex gave a link to the site: http://vengriarus.com/index.php/kupalni-menu/107-gellertkupalnja Perhaps you will find something else interesting for yourself. Hungary is a country traveled by tourists, there are many reviews.
We walked along the Danube around the 17th of December. There was not even a hint of ice. The air temperature was somewhere +4, but the wind was blowing. Budapest in the backlight is just beautiful!:)
On December 25, they will probably work with a restriction.

Oh, for Budapest, 2.5 days is too short. You have to go there for at least a week. That's when you can at least see something. Magnificent city. So many monuments of architecture, which is simply amazing.
