Theoretically it is possible in luggage (not in hand luggage)
But if you fly EL AL, I do not advise you, they used to "shman" and now even more so

There are no problems with the transportation of certain devices. Take it in your hand luggage or in your luggage. Though "El Alem", Though UIA ...
And you don’t need to declare it at the entrance to Israel - this is not a commodity quantity of anything. Israeli border guards don't care, Israeli customs officers do the same! Customs is concerned about smuggling. For example, cigarettes. Today they just published the news that "Three Ukrainians were detained for trying to smuggle about 500 blocks of cigarettes to Israel." Details here:

Not certainly in that way. No need to mix border guards and customs officers. They are two separate organizations with different functions. Now, to the point. Recently I had guests from America. So, they brought an iPhone (only one, not a commercial quantity), but, unknowingly, they left it in its original packaging, which was a mistake, since this product was no longer in the category of goods for personal use, but in the category of gifts! And gifts can be imported duty-free into Israel worth up to $150. As a result, the guests paid $250 (customs tax + fine). I think from the above it is possible to draw a conclusion and make an appropriate decision.

You don’t need to mix - you need tourists to understand the difference. Therefore, I will repeat about what REALLY happens when entering Israel.
I know this from personal experience (in 2014-2015 I imported thousands of dollars worth of electrical appliances and household appliances to Israel - after the fall of the ruble, it was even more profitable to buy everything that can be taken to Israel in luggage / hand luggage).
I know this from observing the incoming tourists when I am in the arrivals hall of the Ben Gurion airport. And I am there every other day - I meet tourists from "Classic Travel" from different cities of Russia and Ukraine ... And I see how they import small household appliances INTO OPEN. As a rule, these are bright boxes of Redmond multicookers. In Israel, they are sooo expensive, which is why people bring them both for themselves (locals) and as a gift (guests).
I sometimes asked the travelers if there were any problems with the security officers when checking in for a flight in the city of departure (El Al flights from Moscow and Kyiv), with customs officers when entering Israel. 100% response - NO problems!

And now about REALLY, At customs at the airport. Ben Gurion there are two corridors, green and red. Everyone who thinks that everything is ok with them freely passes through the green space. In many countries, tourists must complete a customs declaration. There are no declarations in Ben Gurion! Passengers in possession of items that are not on the tax exempt list must go through the red channel and report them. In case of any doubt, customs authorities MAY ASK any tourist to go through the red channel. Failure to report taxable items is considered a violation for which the tourist will have to pay a fine; items may be confiscated.
From experience I can say that I have never been asked to go through the red corridor. But I saw how people were sent .. We all exceed the speed limit in the hope that the policeman will not see us, and we will hope with customs that they will not see us. Therefore, REALLY there is no unequivocal answer here and I would not be categorical

No, Michael is not stubborn. Michael is stubborn!
Of course, I understand that the guide communicates with tourists often. Especially the one that leads group tours. But for those who specialize more in individuals, there is not enough communication ... But even during group tours, the guide rarely manages to talk with tourists on abstract topics, incl. and about going through customs upon arrival in Israel.
It is not necessary to scare tourists with fines and confiscations of a lot of knowledge. You just need to be present at the airport and see with your own eyes, communicate with people ... That's what I do during meetings of tourists. Therefore, YES is categorical - no need to worry! Transportation of electrical appliances in non-commercial quantities, incl. and as a gift, is NOT interested in customs officers. They have things to do. And when there is nothing, then so as not to be bored, they can ask one of the passing passengers to put their luggage on the light ... But not to identify a screwdriver for a couple of hundred dollars or a manual knitting machine!

Recently I came across an article "Customs takes the good." Alex, this is not for you. The tourists have already told you everything and it is useless to argue with you.) And potential tourists should read it, even if they are not smugglers.)) What if the Israeli customs officer becomes sad or completely bored, and he wants to work for 2 hours?)) I understand that what a tour. the forum is part of the social network, which withstands everything and everyone, but from people who consider themselves to be tour. business would like to expect more than just gossip. The question is really serious, and I would not go in cycles only in a knitting machine. They are likely different.) But the principle itself and the general customs rules for alcohol, antiques, gifts, tobacco, it is useful for all of us to know!
The article (below) is about the Israelis, but I am sure that it will also be useful to our guests.

Israelis, attracted by discounts at the James Richardson store at Ben Gurion Airport, have paid the price for their desire to save money. Vendors offered two bottles of hard liquor at 25% off and a third at 30% off, and many couldn't resist. An unpleasant surprise awaited them upon their return, when they tried to pass through the "green corridor" with branded packages.
Customs officials reminded that, regardless of discounts, only one liter of spirits and two liters of wine can be imported duty-free. At James Richardson, adverts are displayed on plasma screens and hung above the cash registers, but Israelis are used to looking primarily at the price tags. Cigarettes sold in blocks at a discount increased the catch of customs officers to 200 violators, so that the operation carried out during Passover, code-named " Blooming Spring” was a great success. They tried to smuggle past customs not only cigarettes and drinks of various strengths, but also watches encrusted with precious stones, mobile phones

I agree with mishatour.
Israel is a country in which security is at the highest level.
And the knitting machine looks very specific.
We flew out on the day of the Yomkippur holiday. Employees of the airline perishmanal before departure all the luggage of everyone. They messed up every single thing.
They asked a bunch of questions to EVERYONE who checked in for the flight.
That is why the registration to Israel starts in 3 hours, while the entry takes 2.
I do not agree with "the border guards do not care, the Israeli customs officers do the same." They can't care by definition. Because the salary is good, because it is prestigious to work there. Because they are well aware of their responsibility.

Today, once again, I was at the airport and talked with tourists coming to the country. No problem - many of those who came to visit came with different gifts. Incl. and costly. Nobody had any problems!
As for security, it has NOTHING to do with customs (except for weapons and drugs).
About checking luggage. As I have already written more than once, in Ben-Gurion Airport they have not checked the suitcases of tourists for a long time!!! Tourists are not checked. The only thing they ask is not to close the suitcases with a lock.
