Bentota Beach across the river (on the bridge on foot about 30 minutes walk) to either the city of Bentota, a small town, Colombo is not so close, probably about an hour's drive. In Bentota, where one could decently eat places, they did not see, there is a market, a supermarket, fruit stands. In Colombo, yes, and restaurants and cafes are available. Golden grill is really super, it is located right near Bentota beach, there are also Susanta opposite the Golden grill, these are two of the best restaurants, I myself only go there and the prices are normal there.
