As far as I remember, up to November last year, when I was there - from 35 to 200 dollars per person, depending on the duration, distance, and the number of people. Those that are the most expensive are a 2-3 day excursion, the price of which also includes hotel accommodation along the route.

Guys, why are you asking about "spontaneous" offers of excursions, when every now and then you read reviews about the poor quality of the work of guides "from the beach", about trips from shop to shop on the way to attractions, and so on.
"Rumble" from the hotel on the coast to the object (whether it be Sigiriya or Kandy) - at least 3-4 hours one way, while the hotel room you paid for is empty and you will be given food in a lunch box (buttered egg, juice, cookies and a couple of bananas). Couldn't be more stupid! Together with an intelligent manager, make a "through" itinerary of the excursion program for 3-5-6 days, see the best / most spectacular, and then make trips to the surroundings of the hotels. There is also something to see there, but the MAIN THING on LANOCHKA is inside the island: in the "Cultural Triangle" between 3 "great capitals" and on the way to the Central Highlands region (center - Nuwara Eliya).
PS The opinion that a trip to Sri Lanka should be planned as a combined tour (excursions with a good guide + rest = in one package) has been "filtered" for more than 10 years of work on the island's excursion routes.

a soft-boiled egg, of course, an image ... (see previous answer), but the essence remains - to pay for a hotel where you are absent for a couple of days, + separately for an excursion - tedious and often very weak in quality - stupid.

I agree with Lanka-Lanochka about a combined tour, or if you are traveling by yourself without a tour operator, make an advance route that you want to travel, agree with the hotel / guesthouse about paying for the days actually spent at the hotel and forward (we actually did this in Last year).

Well, who needs what. I personally don’t really like to go on excursions, so I bought only 2 excursions - to Kandy (+ a turtle farm) and the second - the temple of the tooth of the Buddha + an elephant nursery. One tour was with a guide from the tour operator, the second was bought on the beach)) I had enough. The rest of the time we relaxed at the hotel)) Who wants more excursions, then yes - it's better to take a sightseeing tour. But as I understand it, the question was asked despite the fact that people have already paid for the tour, and the tour is clearly not an excursion.

Thank you all very much for your advice. We were offered a combo tour with an excursion. Having explained that we would have to go on an excursion right from the plane. Unfortunately, after a long flight, I need rest (health problems), so I had to refuse. But I really want to see the beauty Sri Lanka. Therefore, I ask for your advice. Thank you. I will be glad for any advice.

By the way, if you really need a rest after the flight, you could stop for an excursion at the end or inside the rest on the coast. Then it would be: 1) more economical, because nights and days of stay on excursions are not paid in an extra hotel; 2) you save your energy and increase your impressions from visiting excursion sites; 3) when booking in advance, you will definitely be able to confirm one of the best guides and you will definitely not go wrong :)

Svobodaua, I think you will be offered either at the hotel or beach-fights on the beach, there are enough options. Perhaps here on the forum they can advise a guide. You can google the site "MojaLanka", there is a list of excursions, their description and prices. We used their services last year (there is a review in my page) 6-day tour along the following route (Unawatuna - Sinharaja - Yalla - Ella - Nuwara Eliya (with tea plantations) - Horton Plateau - Peradeniya - Kandy - Pinavella - Sigiriya - Trincomalee (with Pigeon Island - Unawatuna) cost $ 1,300 for 2, the price included: a minibus with a driver for 8 seats (only my wife and I were inside, accommodation along the route with breakfast, entrance tickets to attractions. By the way we had an excursion in the middle of the rest, i.e. we rested on the coast for 4 days, then an excursion for 6 days, then again rest on the coast for 4 days. Accordingly, in Unawatuna, we paid for accommodation only for 8 days) The only inconvenience was that all our things went on excursions with us))) but since the minibus was spacious, and there were only 2 of us, we didn’t get them from a bead))) only the essentials were put in backpacks and went to the room. Have a good holiday!!!
