My husband and I were going to visit Sri Lanka this year, but ..... we don’t know when to go, let alone where. If anyone has interesting information please share. We want a clean beach, rooms with ocean views, preferably panoramic, we love excursions (but not extreme sports) and preferably a clean hotel (you can have a small one or a bungalow). Thanks!

We have been preparing for the trip since April, and during this period we have studied Sri Lanka so much that we can become tour operators ourselves. During this period, Unawatuna or Trincomalee are recommended, but we like Mount Lavinia

I just started getting ready. The main condition for me is that I can still swim in the sea, so I follow the recommendations and plan to go to Trincomal. And I wanted to take an excursion for 3-4 days immediately upon arrival with a smooth movement towards Trincomalee. BUT! I would be very interested to hear about your plans. The Trincomalee holiday season ends by the 3rd decade of September, so it is worth considering other resorts for relaxation - from Negombo to the south.
At the same time, the excitement of the water will always be (the ocean, after all!).
As for excursions, Negombo is good as a starting point if you move towards the "Cultural Triangle".
Fortunately, there is a wide choice of hotels - from budget to class SLH * Small luxury hotels of the world (www.slh.com).
However, radial rides to attractions are quite tiring, and a tour along the entire route, from point to point, with a stop for a night or two in one hotel, is the best trip planning, no matter what THOSE who speculatively builds a route on a map and is far from an idea of u200bu200bcharacter traffic on the GOOD but very busy roads of Sri Lanka.

What do you think about Arugam Bay or Hikkaduwa? And why do you yourself lean towards Mount Lavinia or Bentota? And also for September they advise Unawatuna and Dikwella. What do you think about them?

We like the whole of Sri Lanka, all of its coastline. If it's a beach holiday, then it's south, if it's excursions, then ... We want everything, so we can't decide. In general, I really like the Blue Waters Hotel (Blue Waters) - Wadduwe and like the Jetwing Hotel in Negombo, I like Unawatuna and Dikwella, but it's a little to the south and it will not be very convenient to drive on excursions along the slow roads of Sri Lanka (well, perhaps along the south coast), I really want to see all of Sri Lanka.

There is no greenery in that part of the coast, the infrastructure is poorly developed, the transfer is long-distance.
Hikkaduwa is a democratic resort located in a narrow strip between the ocean and the Colombo-Galle highway. In fact, these are several fishing villages that have grown since the hippie era and merged into a place now popular with snorkelers. The territories of most hotels are tiny, but since October the resort itself is animated, everywhere there is “movement”, Bob Marley melodies are heard from every hotel ...
The largest hotel here is Chaaya Tranz 4 *, recently reconstructed from the once popular Coral Garden 3 * hotel with divers. Alas, corals in the vicinity of Hikkaduwa are seriously affected by the invasion of tourists.

Oh, thank you Tanunik and Lanka-Lanochka. In my head, at least something began to draw. Because I'm going to Lanka for the first time, and even at such a controversial time regarding the season. I realized that Arugam Bay definitely falls out of the list. The distance doesn't bother me. I still live with the idea of moving around the sights for the first few days, staying overnight in nearby hotels, and then getting to one beach and moving on to a frankly beach vacation. The only question is where this beach in September will bring me more joy. Now the list includes Unawatuna and Dikveli, Hikkkaduwa and Wadduwa ... But the first two are still in the lead :) I will decide on the beach and start thinking about an excursion tour.

Well, if you choose a beach holiday, then probably the most successful choice (judging only by reviews) is Unawatuna, there is a quieter ocean in the off-season, there is a bay where you can swim at any time of the year, and (they say) there is a beautiful yellow sand.

Yellow sand on Lanochka is a common thing :) The bay in Unawatuna has been quite stormy lately during the windy season, and the waves are eating up a strip of the beach.
