You can agree with him (local) that they will meet at the airport and for the first 2-3-4 days (how much you agree) you will drive around the center of the island, see the sights, and spend the night in local hotels. When the excursion program ends, a local will bring you to a hotel on the coast and spend the rest of your vacation there. So it will be more budgetary and less tiring.
