How long is it for you to go? At least 3 days. If you drive through Hungary, then this is through mountain passes, the road is a high-mountain serpentine. It's beautiful, of course, but scary in places.

These three days will be the beginning of the holiday. I would like the impressions from the road to be pleasant. Maybe someone has experience how to bypass mountain passes and serpentines? And also overnight stays on the road - where is the best place to do them?

Irinchik, in any case, you will have to cross the whole of Montenegro (and these are also mountains), plus the mountains of Serbia (on the border with Montenegro). Try to get a route through Ukraine and Romania. There are not so many mountain ranges, and there will be something to see.

Hello everyone, I traveled all the routes myself and described everything myself, choose any route, but the best one is Hungary-Croatia-Montenegro.
The story is long, so I'm sending it in fragments.
What is needed in order to go by car from Ukraine to Montenegro? Just a wish, some free time and, of course, a car!
And so, that's all you have, now what? Now let's decide how we will go, given our experience, we can go to Montenegro with four routes:
1. Kyiv - Uzhgorod - Hungary - Serbia (Belgrade, Chachak, Uzhice and beyond) - Montenegro.
2. Kyiv - Uzhgorod - Hungary - Serbia (Belgrade, the road to Nis and beyond) - Montenegro.
3. Kyiv - Mukachevo - Romania - Serbia - Montenegro.
4. Kyiv - Uzhgorod - Hungary - Croatia - Montenegro.
In terms of distance, all routes are almost the same, approximately 2,000 - 2,200 km, the distance can increase in one case - if you want to see the sights of the cities through which you pass.
So let's take a look at the first route. Why is he good? Highways pass through the whole of Hungary and thanks to them, you will drive through Hungary in almost half a day and thus save time.

It is better to spend the night before the border in Uzhgorod, from Uzhgorod to the border is only 26 km. Early in the morning we head for Chop, we will spend from 10 minutes to cross the border and ... depending on the circumstances (unless, of course, you are carrying weapons, drugs, etc. contraband).
What should be taken into account? As soon as you have crossed the border, at the first gas station you need to purchase a vignette (this is a payment for travel on the motorway). fare is paid. Minimum payment for 4 days. An important clarification, if you are not staying in Hungary, you do not need to pay a motorway fee for one day. You save 6 euros. The number of your car will be entered into the computer and that's it. Just keep your receipt just in case.
From Chop we drive straight to Budapest. This is 310 km, from Budapest we head for the city of Subotica (Serbia). This is another 203 km. So, all the way through Hungary you will have approximately 513 km. Unless of course you decide not to visit the thermal baths in Miskolc, Esztergom or Budapest. But this is a separate topic for discussion.

It is better to spend the night in Subotica (my opinion). Early in the morning we head for Novi Sad - Belgrad - Cacak - Uzhice (Serbia) - Bielo Pole (Montenegro). In order not to get lost in Belgrade, and you can do it easily, you can go around it. Passing through Novi Sad, you need to head for Ruma, then for Šabac, and from there it’s not far to Valjevo. But the speed limit Ruma-Shabats-Valevo leaves much to be desired. there are few straight lines.
From Subotica to Ruma is only 137 km. From Ruma to Shabac 35 km. From Šabac to Valjevo 65 km. To Montenegro, the city of Bielo Pole is 214 km away. To summarize, only 451 km, but the road will take you 7 hours, or even all 8. Why? The quality of roads is excellent, the quality of fuel differs significantly from Ukrainian gasoline, it is also wonderful. There are simply no large sections of roads where you can really accelerate. Yes, and they watch the speed limit here.
From Bijelo Polje through Mojkovac to Podgorica (capital of Montenegro) 119 km.

Route number two practically repeats the first one with the only difference that you boldly move to Belgrade and then look for the motorway in the direction of Nis. Before reaching Nis, about 25-30 kilometers, you leave the motorway and move to the cities of Krusevac - Aleksandrovac - Raska - Novi Pazar. It is 30 kilometers to the border. Drive to Rozaje and Podgorica only 170 km.
This path was recently explored and I can say with confidence that it is much easier than the first one, most of the way goes along the motorway (by the way, the Subotica-Belgrade motorway - the exit to Krusevac will cost you 9.5 euros). It's less tiring and saves time.
Route number three will start for you from Mukachevo, but you only need to go to the border crossing, which is located near the settlement of Nevetlenfolu, it is 67 km from Mukachevo.
As for the safe passage through the territory of Romania, you can be absolutely calm. The roads are excellent, the quality of gasoline is good. The only thing that is slightly burdensome is that the roads pass through settlements (as in Ukraine) and therefore the speed limit often does not exceed 70 km/h.
Throughout the route there are many information signs, it is almost impossible to get lost.

overnight in this city. As well as an afternoon activity, sightseeing.
From Timisoara (Romania) we leave towards Novi Sad (Serbia), this is 167 km, and you know the further route.
Route number four is probably the easiest. passes mainly along the autobahns of Hungary and Croatia. Although it is 200 km longer, given the quality of the roads, you will not be tired. The only thing that can upset you is a significant difference in the payment for the Croatian autobahn (31 euros for 700 kilometers).
As in the first route, crossing the border, we head for Budapest and, already approaching the city, we look at the signs for Zagreb. You will cross Hungary very quickly, you don't have to worry about it.
Try not to get into a funny situation, which happened to us. There is practically no neutral zone at the border crossing between Hungary and Croatia. Those. here you are giving documents to the Hungarian border guards and after three meters you are already submitting passports to the booth of the Croatian border guards. We just slipped through them, we decided that the Croatian territory would start in a few hundred meters.

Head for Zagreb, there is a good hotel "Zagreb", inexpensive and unprepossessing in appearance, but clean inside, breakfast is included in the price and there is Wi-Fi in the hotel. From the border to Zagreb, the motorway through Croatia will cost you 6 euros.
After a good rest and sleep, move towards Dubrovnik. The main route will go along the motorway and will cost you, as I said, 25 euros.
Please note that this road will take you to the transit route through Bosnia Herzegovina. It goes along the sea, and you will pass through Bosnia for no more than 10 km.
Most importantly, if you will not be staying overnight or resting in Bosnia, you do not need a visa to travel on the transit route.
And then you can decide for yourself which of the cities of Montenegro is better for you to relax. It can be Budva, Kotor or Petrovac, a holiday for every taste.
According to my own experience, the road from Kyiv (Ukraine) through Romania - Serbia to Budva (Montenegro) was 2,100 km, because. we decided to stop by Bucharest for sightseeing.

Alex, the question was about how to get from St. Petersburg, and not from Ukraine.
аватар alexkiev
Oh, there are no roads from St. Petersburg to Ukraine, they haven’t built it yet)))
Friends traveled from St. Petersburg to the Finns, and then across Europe, the roads are lovely. Just do not go through Poland, there are no autobahns, you will lose time.
аватар irin4ik1705
Alex, yes, we are traveling from St. Petersburg, but still you gave a lot of useful advice that will be useful to us. In fact, we ourselves came to the conclusion that we need to go through Hungary-Croatia-Montenegro. It seems that there are no mountain serpentines on this route. As for passing through Finland, there, probably, it will be necessary to cross Austria and Germany? For some reason, we did not consider this path. Probably, it is much longer?
аватар alexkiev
Yes, the path is longer, but there are wonderful autobahns in Austria and Germany. Just do not forget to buy a vignette when entering Austria, otherwise you will have a headache with the police.
Have a good road.

Hello everybody! We are thinking of going to Montenegro with our family. But we are from Kovel Ukraine, and as Google map shows our route passes through 5 countries
(Poland_Slovakia_Hungary_
Croatia_Bosnia and Herzegovina_Montenegro) or Route 2 (Poland_Slovakia_Hungary_
Serbia_Montenegro). Who says what, because he was not in that part of the world. How best to go? For a note, I will go across the Polish border because I have 60 km to go, and there are also Schengen visas.

Hello. Thanks for the info. We want to go from Odessa, do you have any new tips?
аватар baks2010
so we were driving from Ukraine along route 2. hungary vignette 18e at the Shell gas station 5-6km from the border to the left of the road. further autobahns, wash hands and toilet at every step). spent the night near Budapest. gas 0.9e is the most expensive along the way. Ukraine-Hungary border almost 4 hours. the next day the road to Belgrade. border 2.5 hours. gas is already much nicer price 0.6e. vignette is not needed pay for autobahn. road to Nis to the exit to Alexandrovac two segments of 4 euros. after the exit to Alexandrovac we go to Novi Pazar. the road is a steep rural European serpentine (do not go in the evening) not deadly but difficult. We reached Novi Pazar around 21.00 hours. google maps are normal, you just need to follow visually and not listen to your voice, since aunt often fornicates in turns, also check the hotel address via google (airnbb gave us the wrong address, so 17km to the side) but in the city in a cafe they asked for wifi and everything was found. spent the night, received a discount coupon for the wrong address10e and drove on. Further serpentines, serpentines, very beautiful). border with Montenegro 5 min) good luck to everyone and have a good rest

On the advice of alexkiev, we went last year along the route Ukraine-Hungary-Croatia-Montenegro and did not regret it. This is really the easiest and easiest route. We drove back Montenegro-Serbia-Bulgaria-Romania-Ukraine, so there is something to compare with. In general, if you do not want extreme sports, then only through Croatia. Autobahn from Ukraine and almost to Dubrovnik. Gas stations, parking, everything is super. I was much surprised by the cost of the autobahn in Croatia, but given the quality of the road, it's worth it. The way back was chosen solely from the desire to call on the coast of Bulgaria. A very difficult, tedious route. True, the inconvenience and extreme of the route are compensated by breathtaking views in the mountains of Montenegro and Serbia :). Bulgaria and Romania are tough .. There is no Atoban, the limit is 50-60 km and there is a policeman in every bush .... In short, I do not advise. Thanks alexkiev for the advice!

hello! how much, approximately, will it cost to travel by car from ukraine (mukachevo, uzhhorod) to montenegro? thank!
аватар sergey_vin
From Mukachevo to Budva, I got a budget of about 200-210 euros. Of these, about 7 euros is the payment for the Hungarian autobahn and about 40 euros is the payment for the Croatian autobahn, 5 euros is the ferry across the bay in Montenegro. This is without the cost of an overnight stay in Zagreb. It seemed convenient for me to spend the night near the Zagreb airport in the village of Velika Gorica. There are many small hotels and the private sector.

Hello! Please tell me who has come across this, if a cargo minibus in Ukraine is officially converted into a passenger one, will there be any difficulties on the part of the police in the countries through which you pass to Montenegro? Thank you!
