how to get around the island cheaper and where to buy + eat
Please tell me about Langkawi ... we are going from January 2, 2014, how to see the island on your own: always take a taxi or, like in Thailand, there are agencies with inexpensive excursions? And how do you get on the cable car? (in Bali, for example, it was possible to ride 1 taxi all day choosing places on the map ... and pay for the car and not the number of people) and What to do in the evenings - after cafes? we will live next to the oceanarium in the duty-free zone (and what do they sell in these duty-free shops, how are the prices?)

Eh, we haven't been there for a long time!.. When you arrive, please write a review.
Perhaps agencies appeared, then they did not exist, in general, there were not a lot of excursions, but we wandered on our own. With a guide only through the mangrove forests - in English, but everything is absolutely clear, very interesting, ordered at the hotel.
It takes about fifteen minutes to get to the cable car from Aseania by taxi, there is a price list everywhere, taxi prices are fixed, there is an inexpensive car rental, but remember that the traffic is on the left.
We walked a lot on foot, taxis passing by quietly beeped, just wave your hand, they will pick you up.
The oceanarium is too pompous, but the penguins are cool!

Continuation. Duty - the prices were not bad, they sold alcohol, coffee, chocolate, sweets and souvenirs, clothes. Good shop De Son, about ten minutes drive towards the cable car, the prices are not small, but the woodwork is upscale.
On the island there is a batik workshop-shop Atma-Alam (something like that), we wandered around ourselves, we were even allowed into the production room. Prices are moderate.
Food is not easy. We did not like the typical Malay cuisine, we found a Chinese eatery, there are enough of them in those parts, from your hotel to the south. There was an eatery with sea food, not bad. I don’t know what breakfasts you will have at the hotel, in ours there was absolute melancholy, we mostly ate mangoes and pineapples, we bought water in shops.
As for smoking, if relevant, then take it with a margin, it is terrible there!

Ropeway. This is a tourist center, north of the Aquarium, the white peaks are visible even from the beach, don't think it's snow :) There you buy tickets and go up, in two stages. If you are lucky with the weather (there will be no fog), then the spectacle is magnificent. Below is a walking space with souvenir shops, some cafes. We walked from there to the beach, in general, we got a taxi there.
One friend said that they agreed with a taxi driver, he drove them around the island all day

You can ski in Kuah (their main city, a huge eagle on the pier), but there is not much to do there, just go shopping.
There was a problem with the sizes at that time, you can’t find normal trousers for guys from 178 cm tall, only shorts.

You can rent a car. You can take a taxi - it's not very expensive. The cable car to Langkawi is impressive. Prices in Dutik are democratic. You can read my review on this site. I wrote it at the beginning of 2012. Everything is detailed there. It's called "Adventurous Tour: Thailand - Malaysia" in my opinion.
