Booking on Booking
Hello, in the description of the hotel reservation, I read that cash payment upon check-in, and now I see that I received an SMS that there are not enough funds in the account and the reservation seems to have been canceled, although the site still lists that I have it. Tell me the reservation will be canceled if there is not enough money on the card?

I personally, when booking through booking, give the number of a debit card on which there is no money (or rather, there is, but only a few euros). They have the right to withdraw 1 euro cent to check the card. I usually take with the option of cancellation, which is somewhat more expensive than if without it. I always used everything that I reserved, I'm just afraid to give a credit card number, especially when it comes to Turkey, for example.
I think that in your case it depends on which room you booked - with the possibility of cancellation or not. If the first, the maximum that can be withdrawn from a credit card is 1 cent (if there is nothing on a credit card, then yes, they can cancel the reservation. However, it is unlikely, since a small amount exceeding the limit is not a problem (I personally had an excess on a credit card for about 250 euros, nothing, passed, they just asked the bank to either increase the limit, or not to exceed it in the future)).

If the latter, then I don't understand how they can check your credit card limit.

it is possible to cancel the reservation, but until a certain period. on the site they tell me that the hotel does not withdraw money, but blocks it, in case I don’t withdraw the reservation but don’t come, then they will withdraw this money. And I need to put money on the card or give the number of the new card ...

Yes, it happens. It was at booking and precisely from tourists from Ukraine and Russia that there were a lot of fictitious reservations, for the sake of obtaining a visa, empty cards. Some hotels want to know if a tourist is going to visit them at all.

they can just block the funds, pay in cash upon arrival
contact the hotel and solve all the nuances
there are not conscientious hoteliers

Thank you very much. I understand the hotel, of course, what if I don’t come and they keep the reservation in vain. It is not easy to contact the hotel, they don’t understand me by e-mail, the translator is not perfect and I don’t speak English that much.

What translator? Try Google translator online - just write simple short sentences in Russian. It translates correctly, if there are no very complex turns, many commas, abbreviations and slang.

Yes. as a rule, booking hotels simply check the availability of money on the card and sometimes freeze it. I had a similar problem with a hotel in Paris. They froze money for 2 rooms for the entire stay - quite a considerable amount. But I called them, explained the situation and within 24 hours they unfrozen the entire amount. So be sure to write to them. They may well help you.

In general, the situation is a little strange, since those presented on the Booking.com website, in which cash payment upon check-in, are hotels in which there are no terminals in principle. These are, as a rule, cheap small hotels, without terminals and the ability to do something with cards. That is why they only accept cash. And why do you write that SMS came? Do you know for sure that someone actually tried to film something? And what exactly is a hotel? Please write, how do you know that "the reservation seems to have been canceled"?

hatinka, not quite so - the mass of both large and chain hotels indicates payment later. I know, because for me this is just an inconvenience, so even when I find a suitable hotel on booking, I go to book it for a year - the price is the same there, but prepayment and accrual of points.

I booked one hotel in Budapest for one day and the main hotel in Croatia for 10 days, an SMS came from the hotel in Budapest that there was not enough money on the card, I was afraid that the main hotel would also check the card and the situation would be the same ... But booking me answered that the main hotel would take cash upon arrival, although they take a card in case of late cancellation or no-show. The reservation was not canceled immediately, just received an SMS that if I don’t change the card within 24 hours or don’t throw money on it, it will be removed.

Pachok, I didn’t know, I didn’t come across such. I just often "only cash" is either the cheapest hostels, B & B or private apartments come across. Paying later and paying in cash (cash in Europe, you understand that) are two different things. If they had the opportunity to accept cards, they would accept them.
gludkovska, that is, "only cash" is an apartment in Croatia, and the hotel that checked the map is a regular hotel from Budapest? Any hotel can theoretically check the validity of the card and booking com too (they indicate penalties for no-show or cancellation, right), but the hotels I described simply do not have the physical ability to do this.
Usually, those hotels that check the validity of cards do this automatically at the time of booking or immediately after booking, in the coming days. Belated checks are rare and can only occur when there are influxes of visitors when the hotel is full. Someone on the forum said that when the pope changed in the turmoil, in order to raise the price tag on hotels, many of them began to check cards for long-forgotten reservations (at regular prices). Without a reason to check the cards a week or more after booking, I can’t imagine.
If you feel better, I now have 8 armor hanging on the map with 1e
