They dreamed of getting to Rhodes, but we didn’t have a visa, the guide told us that not long before that there was a visa-free regime for one-day excursions from Marmaris, but some Russian tourists ran away from the guide in Rhodes and moved independently unaccompanied, they were looking for all over the island, after that there is a complete ban on visa-free visits. They say that there is nothing special except for the ancient ruins, otherwise everything is the same, only more expensive

Entry rules are simple - the presence of Schengen. I won’t tell you the prices, because different agencies are very different. Rhodes is a pleasant island, but if you go for a few hours - tease yourself, it's better to choose it as your next vacation destination.

Agree 100% with sent2008 - go to Rhodes for a few hours, just tease yourself. This year we rested on Rhodes for 11 days, rented a car, and then we didn’t see the whole island.

Better see Marmaris this time, and Rhodes next time

In 1998, he traveled with his son from Marmaris to Rhodes. At that time, a Schengen visa was not yet needed. The tour was self-guided. We went to the port by bus (they called for us at the hotel), and then by boat, on hydrofoils - on the "Rocket". We left the boat and ourselves, without an excursion, went for a walk. We watched the old city, excavations, ruins, within the fortress, then went to the new city. Nothing special, what is in Marmaris, did not see. I especially liked the beach and the sea in Rhodes. Light blue color, much more beautiful than in Marmaris. Moreover, there is a Greek flavor .. That's all. We were offered this tour for 2-3 days with an overnight stay in Rhodes, but we went for one day.

Wow, to blurt out something like this, "that there is nothing special except for the ancient ruins, and everything is the same," also from other people's words. Well, it would not be a shame to write such a thing about the history of Rhodes

dimdimysh, those who write about history are those who understand something, for whom it is of professional interest. I briefly wrote what I saw for 5-6 hours of stay (the time before returning to the boat). Excavations, fragments of walls, columns, stones in the old city did not impress. The palace (it was not possible to visit inside), the inner garden below with a beautiful lawn and palm trees, located between the fortress walls, the wall itself surrounding the station. the city is perhaps the whole "history". The Colossus of Rhodes, as we wanted, was not seen!!! The city behind the fortress wall, the new city, is an ordinary resort town with hotels, cafes and shops. Closer to the sea, there are old solid buildings in the Greek style, maybe even the same age as the palace. One of them - "Bank of Greece" (changed money).

History is the culture of its people, its memory and pride. This is an axiom. And where is the profession ???
And Rhodes is not only one city, but also its monasteries, the Acropolis in Lindos, the path of Christ, and nature.
If you are not interested, and we have millions of them, then you don’t need to write “nothing special” and put yourself in a bad light.
And you, please, look in the Yandex search engine by typing the words "7 wonders of the world" and finally find out why it is not possible to see the Colossus.

dimdimysh. Don't be so upset. Go to the search engine and type "Rhodes" and there you will find out that this is not only a city, but an entire island. And do not expose yourself as a kind of know-it-all - a mentor teacher.

Agencies in Marmaris only sell tickets for the Marmaris-Rhodes-Marmaris ferry. Excursions in Rhodes can be booked already on the island.
In 2013, a simplified version of obtaining a short-term Greek visa for tourists from the Russian Federation was introduced.
A visa can be obtained in Marmaris in 3-4 days. The Daisy tour website has a list of documents required for the application and pricing.

So what about visas today? Can I get to Rhodes from the port myself? How much does the floating facility (ferry) cost? There is a biometric passport - do Ukrainians need to pay for a Greek visa?

You can also spend more than one day in Rhodes, in which case you need to purchase tickets from us with an open date. These tickets are valid for 14 days, during any of which you can return back to Marmaris. Please note that in this case the transfer is not included in the price and you need to arrive at the port by 08.00 am on your own, as well as back to the hotel upon your return.
From 06.2017, citizens of Ukraine with a biometric passport have the opportunity to visit Rhodes without issuing any visas.
What to do if there is no Schengen visa, but you really want to go to Rhodes.
