Excursion to Luxor
With whom would you advise to go to Luxor? Is it worth saving and not taking a tour from a tour operator (TezTour)? What is the difference in price and quality?

Last year, my daughter and I went to Luxor through the locals. The organization of the trip suited us completely. We went on the same bus with those who bought the tour from their tour operators, only they paid more. ahead. The tour program is the same for everyone. I wrote you an email in more detail.

lady, thank you!

We were in a hotel in March and took a trip from our Pegas-tour operator, we didn’t find out the prices on the street, but, to be honest, we never took risks. And there are no agencies near the hotel. We had a very good guide. I advise you to take more water, in the Valley of the Kings we blew a large bottle each - it's very hot. And think about the choice of clothes - the air conditioner works on the bus, and it was +40 on the street, and now, probably, there will be more. Be sure to put something on your head.

The price of an excursion in a street agency differs from the price of hotel guides. Moreover, they have one and the same excursion can cost differently. So it was with us, when we were honored to go to Luxor, our guide was not there, but he had to either come up, or was about to leave for a minute, we didn’t want to wait and went up to a Russian girl from another agency right here in the hotel lobby. The result - the girl looked around 150 times and took us out of reach. And her excursion was 5 (!) Dollars cheaper than our boy's.
The tour was very tiring and interesting for me, but for myself I decided unambiguously - I don’t go with them anymore - 4-5 hours there, the same amount back, forty-fifty minutes for sightseeing - and then - "alabaster factory"," papyri, fragrant oils".
There are no guarantees for the quality of excursions = - it all depends on the guide.
аватар Olga-odessa
And we had the opposite - a lot of historical places and at the end for about twenty minutes we stopped at the alabaster factory. It really depends on the guide. But what is, that is - in the evening we returned to the hotel at ten o'clock, like squeezed lemons, and decided that the program for long-term trips had been completed.

Having told myself that I am no longer a rider, nevertheless, one day I succumbed to the persuasion of my comrades from the group and went to the Aswan Dam. A tour by a hotel guide was offered for $150. We bargained for $100 each. We were promised a travel time of 3 hours because we were driving on a very close new road, resulting in a one-way travel time of 7 hours. We arrived at the dam, the guide says - to inspect the dam -15 (!!!) minutes.
We left at 2-30, arrived at 23-30, as you write correctly, like what was left after the lemon.
I have been to Egypt seven times, but never to the pyramids.
аватар Olga-odessa
No, for the first time we went to Cairo with Sharma, because my friends set me up that it is not known whether I will get there again or not - and this is a mandatory program. Now we mainly go to the place on various safaris (by the way, I really liked the super-safari), etc. And after Cairo, we were not just tired, but super-tired - a night on the bus, we rushed all day and returned late at night. So Luxor - flowers :)
аватар elenako
Having tasted these "flowers" I will not get to the pyramids. As an option, I'm considering an airplane.
But I don’t remember, do planes fly to Luxor? There is an airport there.
I am also considering a cruise on the Nile as an option. But there you also fly to Hurghada, and then by bus to the place where the cruise starts.
аватар dama
There are no excursions to Luxor by plane, that's for sure, I found out, because I was with my 9 year old daughter, I wanted maximum comfort. True, we weren’t very lucky with the guide in Cairo, but this is a lottery. We didn’t particularly drag around the shops, only at the end, before leaving for the airport, they offered a choice of a zoo or a bazaar. Unfortunately for our daughter and me, the bulk of the tourists chose the bazaar. Cairo by plane is the best option, if, of course, finances allow. And to Luxor only by bus, well, or taking an individual one is also a less tiring option
аватар elenako
And is it individual, also accompanied by a convoy?
аватар dama
As far as I remember, since last year we didn’t even go on group excursions with an escort. At least we went to Luxor without any escort. , this year we plan to go individually to Abu Simbal and, for sure, not through a tour operator. If, interestingly, I can share the coordinates.

We are literally 3 weeks from there. We went with Teztur, we liked everything, there is the entrance to the Karnak temple, the temple of Hatshepsut, the valley of the kings. We enjoyed everything very much, including lunch :) It's better not to save 10 dollars and get a good impression. In our hotel, girls for 60 c.u. they paid for an excursion from someone on the left, and they didn’t come for them and didn’t show any excursion.
аватар Dokktor
after sad stories with street excursion bureaus, we made it a rule not to save on comfort and safety and buy excursions from a hotel guide. There is a difference in cost, but it pays off.
We went to Luxor from Pegasus, the excursion was interesting, well organized, from the "appendages" there was only a short stop at the alabaster factory.
аватар tatianaz
We took a tour at the hotel, $ 85 per person, the guide Yasser, he spoke interestingly. The trip was long, but a lot of impressions. And across the Nile on a boat, and temples, and shops. I especially liked the Karnaak temple. Even more impressive than the pyramids. Yasser is an excellent tour guide.
The perfume shop is so busy that it's hard to choose what you need, and not what they don't knit. It is better to take at the "Promotional" price, 2-3 aromas in small bottles than 100-300 ml, then you will not know what to do with them.
аватар elenako
To be honest, I have no idea what kind of fragrances you can get in a perfume shop. Having bought SOMETHING once, I still use it, it stands as a reminder of an unnecessary purchase.
But this is my opinion.

We decided not to risk it and took excursions from our guide (Turtess). Luxor (bus, $80), Cairo (air, $250). Both excursions were very pleasant, neither of them got tired. With shops and factories it was like everyone else, but they were treated calmly, as an opportunity to chat over a cup of iced tea (while others were shopping). We bought all the souvenirs at the airport before flying home - the best prices. Those who write that a good excursion depends on a good guide are right. Although we also had a good guide in Luxor, we really liked the guide in Cairo - an Egyptian woman (Christian) of the World. This is probably why I liked Cairo more. Have a good rest, interesting excursions.

The last time we were in February 2010, we decided to go to Luxor through a street agency (they wanted to save money), the price was $ 60 per person. - slightly spoiled). We re-ordered from TezTour ($70 per person). the difference in price is only 10 dollars. Everything was super from the organization to the beauties of the Karnak temple. And it’s not at all tiring if you are not a lazy and inquisitive person. Olga-Odessa (see above) wrote that they were super tired of Cairo, in Cairo I went to ex-siyu in July (the hottest month) with a 9-year-old daughter and a 58-year-old mother, everyone was just super happy, and the fatigue is pleasant. It all depends on the temperament of the person. People, movement is LIFE. at least one long-distance excursion (or Cairo, but Luxor is better and more interesting); and take it only from your tour operator. Have a good rest.
аватар elenako
--and movement is LIFE.
I agree 100% with this expression, I myself use it in everyday life, and that is why there is no desire to sit for 7 hours on the road only one way, in order to be at the pyramids for forty minutes.
аватар AdelinaR
Not 7 hours at all. From Hurghada to Cairo, we drove exactly 5 hours. back even 20 minutes. smaller.
To Luksov in the best case 4 hours. Plus, the movement of the convoy and under the escort of the convoy has now been canceled. If anyone who traveled knows that earlier all the buses from the region were going to El Gouna, and then the convoy and the police went to Luxor and who to Cairo, now there is no such thing (that reduces travel time). The bus fills up and immediately goes to the highway to the sightseeing city. I think it’s still worth it to go at least once. Although I want to say again “to each his own”, it depends on the temperature.
аватар elenako
Does reducing the amount of time on the bus lead to more time for sightseeing in Cairo?
аватар Zlata28
went to Luxors Teztur,
and other excursions went from street agencies
no difference noticed
and in the first and second cases, what was promised was what they received
the price difference is amazing
so it's up to you
аватар dama
How much time you spend on excursions largely depends on the guide accompanying you. As he organizes, so it will turn out.
When we were in Cairo, although the guide had problems with Russian, but on the pyramids and near the Sphinx we climbed for almost 2 hours and spent a lot of time in the Cairo Museum. We were brought to only one oil store.
According to stories, I heard that many people spend almost 30-40 minutes near the pyramids, and that's it. How lucky
