Excursion to Elguna.
Is it worth it to go. Where does snorkeling take place and how good is the underwater world there.

Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I remember El Gouna is the Egyptian Venice, they carry it through the canals, but there are no fish and corrals, if you want to see the underwater world, then you should go to Utopia, well, or Paradise (Paradise Island)
аватар miki08
In El Gouna itself, there are only canals, but after that you will be taken to the reef in the sea. It's really nice and all is well. Paradise Island itself is a bare beach, and there is nothing to see there, but in front of it they give you the same to swim among the reef.

I know that this is Venice, but as I read the tour is from 8 to 18 and it also includes an hour of swimming with masks. It was interesting to see how worthy the place is taken to swim (since this is not the main part of the tour). Well, how people liked Egyptian Venice is also interesting. Is it worth it to go.

You can visit El Gouna itself once, but no more - this is a hell of a complex of mansions of all sorts of "celebrities" standing on the water. Beautiful, well-groomed, but of course there is nothing to study there for a long time.
But I liked the trip because I was taken by sea almost along the whole of Hurghada, I looked at the city from the sea, I was very glad that I did not live in the city itself, but 20 km away.
Plus, while you are sailing, there is something to take a picture of - the sea on the way to El Gouna is very beautiful.
Something like this:

Swimming is taken out on the way back to the reef in the sea.
The reef is quite beautiful, not shabby by tourists, but there are not a lot of rare fish there, as yachts stop there all the time to drop tourists into the water;)
The water there is clean and transparent - here in this photo I am swimming above a depth of about 20 meters, as you can see, the sea is the cleanest.

But it is difficult to swim there - a strong current, so do not swim far away, it will be difficult to return.

The reef begins to swim on the left side of the beach, at first it’s unclear, but then it’s good, there’s nothing to do on the pier. It’s better to buy rubber shoes, stremko, stingrays and snakes crawl out in shallow water (I actually saw snakes once). special, too quiet, some foreigners, everything is exorbitantly expensive in stores) but for show you need to visit. It’s better to go by taxi, and not with a tour, and it’s cheaper and there will be more time. I advise you to visit Luxor, beauty!

It's better to go by sea - you will see more.

We were also in El Gouna - not impressed, swimming and snorkeling on the way back, only 1 stop and not in the best place (at least I didn’t like it) If you want to see enough fish, you can take the usual Coral Reefs excursion all day in sea, 3 about 1-1.5 hours of landing on different beautiful reefs (we saw all exotic animals and fish - dolphins, rays, moray eels, awesome octopus and a thousand fish). We have been to Hurghada more than once and always take this tour (Coral reefs). But that's my personal opinion!!!
аватар ilona979
I really want to see the fish, but somehow it’s scary all day in the sun in the sea. (((
аватар miki08
You will be on the ship. There is a central cabin, which is also a dining room and a bar. Here you can take a break from the sun. Yes, and on the deck the awnings are stretched. I do prefer to stay there in the winter.
аватар lvenok
I went on a sea excursion in August - Utopia, excellent, there are tents on the deck, when you go on a yacht the breeze blows, you can take a paradise there on the island there are umbrellas and sun loungers, but there is no such thing on utopia, you can just lie down, or again go to corrals, there were 2 stops, very beautiful corrals! (3rd island itself)
аватар AdelinaR
Believe me, everything is provided there so that you are not in the sun all day. And awnings, and a cabin, and a closed lower deck, drinks. And also during the movement of the yacht (and during parking), a pleasant refreshing breeze.

And another question. I swim very badly, so I plan to be in a life jacket. Can I get to admire the underwater world in this way?????
аватар lvenok
of course it will work) I swam in a life jacket and with a mask and snorkel, it just gives confidence, and so you swim like everyone else! By the way, there were a lot of people in life jackets. when under you 15 meters it scares a little) even those who swim well
аватар miki08
Yes, many swim in vests and look from the top, what to do, not everyone is born for extreme sports. But when you dive, the view and pleasure is completely different. But if you are not confident in yourself, then only in a vest. You will still see a lot of beautiful things.
аватар Dreamer_0x01
Just when swimming in El Gouna, I had to take off my wife's vest, because at that time she did not swim confidently, and the vest only interfered with her - it was difficult to cope with both the current and the wind.
Things went much better without the vest.
So if there is no strong wind, then swim in a vest, if it does, then it is better without a vest and closer to the instructor, so that if something happens, he will drag you by the hand.

We took three sea excursions - I liked Elguna the most. We went from Tez tour, guide Tatiana. Tells very interesting. We went to a small museum, there are different fish, she talked about them. There was fishing, swimming in the sea, saw dolphins. It's worth going once. My 8 year old also loved it.
аватар miki08
A little advice, get a mask and a snorkel at home to enjoy the sea, they really give it on the ship, but out of a sense of hygiene, it’s not known who put on this mask before you, I’m not talking about the snorkel.
аватар Pachok
I watched a picture of one tourist in a vest bending over to take a good look at something, and just turned upside down like a float:((Be careful.
I really enjoyed the excursion to El Gouna. There, in addition to this "Venice" itself, snorkeling is provided, there is something to see (and, by the way, when I was there, there was no wind at all - the month of October), fishing and dolphins. My husband caught two fish, he was happy :) And the dolphins - just handsome - huge, one blue, swam right next to the side.
аватар Dreamer_0x01
Dolphins are a very big luck factor.
I sincerely envy you that you were lucky to see them.
As for fishing, this is generally my main hobby in life, and I can say with full responsibility that the fishing that is offered when traveling to El Gouna is just a miserable semblance of fishing.
The tackle is rough, the weights are chosen incorrectly.
This is a kind of bortovushka, only without a fishing rod at all and with a thick fishing line, which at such a depth completely reduces the sensitivity of the tackle. Naturally, you can catch a fish, especially if you have ever caught it with a winter bait, but don’t count on mega-catch - it’s quite possible to catch a red mullet or a broomtail, but you shouldn’t count on a grouper or tuna;)
аватар Pachok
So this is not fishing! :))) My husband also prefers to catch trout in Norway, but here it is, a short entertainment.
After the dolphins, they sailed specially to some kind of square, and then five boats moved in a circle and blew. Dolphins came, although we were not guaranteed this, they said 50x50. But the turtle did not swim :(
аватар Dreamer_0x01
Pachok, go to Marsa Alam for turtles, you will definitely see them there!
One day I got to the point that I didn’t just take a picture of a turtle in the water, but tried to put two turtles in the frame at once, and even with some fish in the background;)
аватар Pachok
If someday I'm going to Egypt, then it's definitely either SHES or Marsa Alam, thanks :) I read a lot of good reviews about him regarding aquatic life.

rested in El Gouna itself.
my tips:
1) you can easily go by yourself, without an excursion, about 20 minutes by taxi from Hurghada
2) a taxi will most likely drop you off at the barrier at the entrance to E-G, there you can take either a taxi or a double tuk-tuk for 5 pounds per person, or you can walk on foot (go straight along the road, then Marina to the left, Town to the right) , tuk-tuks ply everywhere, so in which case do not get lost ...
3) in E-G there are 2 so-called centers - Marina and Downtown, between them about 20 minutes walk at a walking pace (call the taxi driver any of them)
4) Marina is cooler, there is a parking of yachts, such as Cannes; there are also many restaurants and shops in the Town
5) you can walk around the territory of all hotels freely
6) in Russian, no one boom-boom, this is not for you in Hurghada, be prepared for this
7) only foreigners have a rest, cool disco and an Italian restaurant in the Marina
8) coral far from the shore, long pantone, there are waves
and 9) it’s very, very beautiful and civilized, EG is not like the rest of Egypt, in the evening in the Marina it’s just incredible, if possible, rent a room for the night and spend the night
It’s worth the trip, but not for 70 USD per person, just make sure to speak clearly with the taxi driver, I know them
