Can you please tell us about the excursion to Cairo? How many hours does the trip take? How much does the trip cost? Where is it better to buy from guides or from locals?

We took a tour from a guide, because safety is the most important thing. Buying a tour "on the street" no one guarantees you insurance in the event of an insured event, and anything can happen in a foreign Arab country. Although, many do not buy from guides and stay satisfied, because it’s so much cheaper. Well, here everyone should decide for themselves what is more important - money, or a sense of security. Our excursion to Cairo lasted a day. The road takes 6-7 hours one way. For us, the tour seemed very interesting, although and tedious. But, how not to see this wonder of the world, being in Egypt?;) The price is about $ 80 per person, this is in April last year.

Hello, I was in Egypt in April 2009, I took an excursion to Cairo from a dude who sells on the territory of the hotel. It turned out 40 dollars per person. I didn’t think anything about any insurance, because I saw on TV how a bus with Russians overturned in Egypt and so then, it seems, they didn’t find any ends in the sense of insurance. We left the hotel at 1 am, drove for 7 hours, everything was very pleasant in Cairo. Especially the pyramids. Before going to the pyramids, I recommend watching the film "Mysteries of Ancient Egypt" to penetrate the grandeur of these structures, and not look at them as a big pile of stones. The pyramids are the most amazing!

marina2882 I will probably disappoint you .. but even in the case of buying an excursion "from the guide" you are not guaranteed insurance .. read your insurance policy carefully! so your safety was relative :)

Perhaps so, but when buying a tour from a guide, you know at least someone to make claims in case of something. But the Arab from whom the tour was bought will be much more difficult to find.

We went on an excursion to Cairo at the end of January this year. I was already there 3-4 years ago, the one that had something to compare with.
Took a tour from Pegasus, $79 per person.
The pyramids and the Sphinx remained unchanged ... In the Cairo National Museum, photography was forbidden at all - before it was impossible in the golden hall .. The Nile is still the same - muddy ...
In the past, there was always a police officer on the bus with security functions ... not now. I didn’t like the tour guide at all - ZhuZha - a completely dull and uninteresting story ... I could tell more than she told ...

Yes, 'bout the road

respectively, back the same

Was in Hurghada in October 2009, took to Cairo and Luxor to Teztura. Cairo 75$ and Luxor 70$ and 1 excursion to load for free - for Cairo in Hurghada which costs as much as 10$. An organizer guide is attached to each excursion. He watches everyone, oversees and searches everyone, our Russian onlookers always gape somewhere. So, safety with Teztour, at least they won’t let you get lost and fall behind. comfortable shoes, flip flops and flip flops will pass, and be sure to wear a hat.

The whole joke is that insurance does not cover tours.
The second interesting fact: we took a tour on the street, and our neighbors in the hotel from the guide for $ 25 more, and traveled by one bus.
The sale of excursions is one of the guides' incomes, sometimes they even threaten that they will put your name on the black list "if you yourself rock somewhere"

Everyone rides the same buses. Only someone pays more and reassures himself by the fact that he rides from the Guide :))
Rested in October, a friend persuaded me to go on a sea (island) excursion from a guide from the hotel for $ 40, it cost like. God... how we spat. the ship is old, there are a lot of people, the food is disgusting. A day later, we went on the same excursion that we bought from a friend for $ 25. We were extremely pleased with EVERYTHING. My opinion is that you should not pay extra money to tour operators and let hotel guides earn money.

The purpose of buying an excursion is not to let someone earn money, but to get pleasure from the excursion. And here, I see who is lucky. My opinion is to buy an excursion from guides. And in the end, everyone decides for himself how to save his money. ;))

If you do not purchase a separate travel insurance policy for Egypt, then your insurance will end as soon as you leave the holiday area. About the trip, it's quite tiring, it's best to go now, it's less hot, the bus is air-conditioned, but when you leave it you go from 20 to 35 now, imagine summer. From the beginning you are brought to the museum, it is interesting, but you will not learn much from the shouting of the guides in different languages. Then a scam begins, papyri, an oil factory, where you will be bred for money for a long and dreary time. Then you are taken to the pyramids, more precisely to the Sphinx, there you have lunch, and then only to the pyramids, there is a run, then they are again brought in from the other side, there is again a wiring, like a bazaar, and then naturally they are taken to buy "the best, the cheapest" in gold in the world, and the way back.
I traveled from Sharm, I really wanted to see the pyramids with my own eyes, and was satisfied, but it was a pity that the time wasted in the empty for all completely unnecessary shops and factories. My opinion is that you need to take tours, not at a hotel, not from an Arab, but go to the city, and buy from a large company, firstly it’s cheaper, and secondly, if there are several people, then a discount, and if you take a few, then even more cheaper.

With a frequency of 1 time per week, the question of excursions arises. With the same frequency, there is a dispute about where to buy excursions, and how insurance works.
It would be nice to put expert advice in a separate FAQ section.
In the meantime, I'll tell you from my own experience (4 times in Egypt, 9 trips on excursions).
1. If you are interested in an accident on an excursion and insurance for it, then it is better not to go on excursions at all. And then all the time you will think about the terrible dangers in the wild Arab country, and not about the historical relics of Egypt.
2. Even if you use the insurance at the hotel, and not on the excursion, remember: the insurance has a deductible of $ 30 that is not covered by it (read the policy carefully!). That is, when you call a doctor, you must pay these $ 30 out of your own pocket. All other treatment is covered by insurance.
3. Attention! insurance does NOT cover the bulk of accidents (read the policy carefully!).
So, everything that happened on the tour will certainly not be reimbursed by insurance.

4. Regarding the cost of excursions. When you buy from a well-known tour operator, it naturally turns out to be more expensive: you pay for the brand name (about 40% more expensive). True, if the operator is powerful (Tez, Pegasus), then they have their own fleet of buses. As a rule - new and comfortable. If you buy from local travel agents, you may get a worse bus. This does not apply only to trips to Israel. There you will be transferred to Israeli buses. And they are all equally good.
5. If you really want to travel in comfort and see sights rather than papyrus workshops, then order individual tours from local agencies.
6. So in December I went from Hurghada to Luxor. Toyota Corolla 3 years old for two. Excellent driver. Guide for 2-3 cars. Moves from car to car and tells everything along the way. Not tired at all. And they paid 90 dollars for each (we were 6 people, 3 cars).
Pegasus offered us for 85 dollars - this is with a discount of 5 dollars.
So, choose for yourself what is more important to you: thoughts about insurance, cheapness, brand name, or comfort.
