Mount Moses?
Friends, tell me, please, how is it more interesting to go to the monastery of St. Catherine and Mount Moses, buy an excursion or organize yourself (taxi, car rental, we are 4 people)? In general, we are freedom-loving tourists, and wherever possible, we try to travel on our own (much more interesting), but we don’t know how applicable this is for Egypt!

I went with Tez Tour. Not happy with the organization of the trip. The guide didn't even say to take water to the summit with him, the people left a lot of necessary things on the bus. The bus was accompanied by a police convoy part of the way. Before climbing, the guide handed us over to the Bedouin, who led us upstairs .... Such a cool dude ... On the way back (we walked along a more difficult path, overlooking the monastery itself - an amazing sight) we went into the monastery for exactly 15 minutes. But the trip is worthwhile, although it requires careful preparation.

We traveled in an organized manner. The tour was bought on the street, which would be cheaper. I don't know what you want from the mountain. We went to meet the dawn on it. A very mesmerizing sight. But: the rise begins at night in order to be in time for sunrise, so you must have flashlights - the road is not illuminated; You must have very warm clothes - when we went up. then below t-30, and on the top at night - 0. After meeting the sunrise, we went down to the monastery. There are a lot of people, you can get lost in the crowd - and so the guide organized us and told everything in an interesting way. We liked.

Of course, only in a group. And be sure to take warm clothes in which you arrived.
And I advise you to watch a cartoon about Masyanya, how she climbed Mount Moses. The cartoon is called "Habibi"

We went with Tez Tour, it was organized, it’s scary to take such an excursion on the street))) so the Tez guide at the foot of the mountain handed us over to a Bedouin, a boy of 24 years old, they said that his name was Holiday))) Actually a cool guy. No one was lost from the group, it was interesting to communicate with him. The ascent to the mountain is difficult, but the dawn is worth it. On the way, there are a lot of Bedouins offering camels. But they say that to those who climbed the mountain on their own (with their own feet, not on a camel) all sins are forgiven))) There are passes along the way, where you can buy water, chocolates to have a snack, tea, hibiscus, coffee. It is very cold at the top of the mountain. We rented a blanket, or 2 or 4 dollars. Meeting the dawn, and then the descent .... To the people of the sea! At the bottom they give time to have a bite, then the tour continues - entering the Monastery, they will show the Burning Bush. And in general, that's all, a trip back to the hotel)))
But trust me, it's worth it!

fidanzata, of course, you can go self-propelled, only no one will let you up the mountain without a guide, and everyone has one, and so on. and by the street, each group has a guide, and the tour will give you one. the police and of course you will have to pay for his services.

Egypt is a country where tourists don't go anywhere on their own without the police.
If you want to save money - buy a tour on the street. But not on your own by car.

Thank you all very much for the advice! Someone else's experience is an indispensable thing when traveling! How did we ever live without internet?
