won't the locals bother? Will it be possible to leave the protected area and get acquainted and communicate with non-locals in the city? isn't it scary

Well, it’s dangerous or not, it depends only on you and your behavior. As you put yourself, they will treat you like that.
The locals will not pester you, they can shout at you at most, come, beauty, into the store! buy perfume! buy a t-shirt! etc. etc...
If you need to, come in and look at the goods - no one will grab your hands. We looked, they left. That's it.
Meet the guys in the city, it's up to you... it's impossible to say whether it's dangerous or not...
аватар ecila85
Are there tourists or many locals in the city?
аватар Pachok
Locals will be sure to pester you, unless you are over 50 and you are not a 150-kilogram mustachioed matron - they themselves have enough of them. It is generally better not to enter the shops without an escort. We chose hibiscus with my girlfriend, went into the shop, HUSBANDS remained on the threshold, so this local macho in a nightgown still managed to snuggle up, creature. Despite the fact that we were more than decently dressed, we walked accompanied by men and we were not twenty for a long time. A normal holiday in Egypt is a good expensive hotel, preferably not "Russian", with a good reef, and no walks beyond the territory.
аватар Mariya25
there are those and those
аватар Mariya25
It seems to me, Pachok, this is rather an exception. Yes, sometimes they pester, shout something, but they never bothered me and my friends for 5 or 6 times of staying in Egypt. And not 150 kg in us))) and everything looks OK.
We just ignore and that's it .. all questions disappear.
аватар ecila85
Mariya25, and when compared with Turkey, are things worse or better?
аватар Mariya25
Well, maybe a little "worse" :).
аватар Pachok
Mariya25, why are you ignoring if everything is so great? :))
аватар angelisa
I have been on vacation with my girlfriend many times, and my opinion is this: no matter what country you are in, a girl with one look can show "NO ", which is not necessary. Of course, if you respond to harassment with a hee-hick or smiles, then do not be offended by men who look at us as girls who have descended from the pages of "PLAYBOY"!!
аватар allenka
ecila85, if you leave the hotel in one swimsuit, believe me, not only locals will pester you :) A decent uniform and a polite refusal - this weapon is quite enough. YES, Slavic-type girls are very much loved there, they make compliments, show signs of attention. Some are polite and cultured, others are greasy and boorish. It all depends on you what tactics of behavior you choose. No one will touch you on the street. Unless, of course, you yourself allow it.
аватар masichka
There is nothing wrong here! You just have to be careful. If a good girl, then they will pester you even if your loved one is holding your hand. But it's best not to walk in dark alleys, not get into the first car that comes across, and don't dress for the evening in the city as if it were the last disco in your life ;-)
аватар masyanya2140
Rested with a friend without husbands. We went to shops, walked around the city. Of course, there were attempts to molest, but, as they already wrote here, the main thing is the correct behavior and modest clothing (preferably without a neckline and closed legs). Have a nice rest!
аватар Zlata28
Everything depends entirely on your behavior.
Yes, they are very sociable, yes they flirt, release compliments
BUT - if you don't want any continuation
in the development of relations, then nothing will happen
They definitely won't rape you :)
аватар Pachok
How lovely! "They won't rape"... And walks around the city, of course, should be accompanied by non-stop polite refusals, resolute looks "NO " and chronic deafness, so as not to hear cultural or greasy cries...And this is a comfortable stay?? ? I repeat once again - a good expensive hotel can brighten up your stay in this country, and it is better to leave walks in local towns, souvenir shops in Greece, Cyprus, Catalonia, Sicily.

Ladies, ladies, have a conscience. Here that, only teenagers write-read. :) My wife and I were just about her half-century anniversary. :) Of course, at 20 it seems that at 50 life is over. :) I can assure you that you are deeply mistaken. And I wouldn’t give fifty to half of mine myself, and I think that I can put on an after-school dress on a bet. So that's all right. The Arabs sometimes stared, joked in the shops, but I did not notice rudeness. Maybe because I don't know Arabic. For 11 days we ran into and swam over more than 3000 km in Egypt. Been to many places up to Abu Simbel. Interest on the part of their men in our women is ubiquitous, but the amount of stickiness almost entirely depends on the behavior of "ours". Maybe they didn't pester for fear of my size :) And for the locals, attempts to "pick up" ours are, in my opinion, the same kind of "sport" as the boundless desire to bargain. The peculiarity of the mentality.
Just keep in mind and behave accordingly - there will be no problems. Local laws against attacks on the female sex very strictly regulate the behavior of the male half. So obviously they won’t go on the rampage.

Of course, in terms of security, there is no better place than a hotel. But if you want to wander around the local shops and bazaars, look at all this bedlam, then why not? Dressing casually is probably the most important thing. And whether or not to ignore the complimenting Egyptians is already according to the situation. It is very interesting to talk with some of them, to practice your broken English. There are also some normal guys among them who earn their livelihood or education by selling souvenirs. The main thing is to be able to distinguish rudeness from a simple desire to chat with a girl from another (Slavic) world. And if the locals are ignored, despised and not talked to (I'm not talking about a smile in response to normal words) - then why go to distant lands at all? Sitting in a hotel and swimming in the pool??
аватар ecila85
maybe a question. what is "not defiant"? I never seem to dress provocatively. but in the summer I go to the sea in short skirts and T-shirts. is it provocative?
аватар orhideya21
To Pachok. Why even go to the country where the hotel is designed to "brighten up the rest"? Visit other countries and don't scare the tourists. And Egypt deserves to be bought souvenirs in memory of the country! Nikolay Kyiv is well done. Keep it up! If it's not difficult, share how you and your wife have done so much around the country (organizationally), how much did it cost for the tour. I would very much like to see not only hotels and a standard set of attractions, but also the country as such. Thanks in advance!
Elica85, Nikolai writes correctly - this is more and more a "sport": and the opportunity to sell more by hanging compliments, and, what the hell is not joking, spend the night with a girl, but only if she does not mind. They are only available to them after marriage + big dowry . And this is where the ornate eloquence of the seaside residents wakes up ... Do not be afraid of anything, go to rest. I myself relax with my friends and everything is always calm. All are correct.
If you were offered something quickly and in a whisper, say "no" and, believe me, no one will grab your hands and pull you into a dark place. But if you come across a too intrusive option, intimidate the police. It works. Don't stay in the hotel all the time. Naama Bay is a great place for an evening stroll.
аватар Pachok
Dear orchid21! When I need YOUR advice, I will ask you for it. Until that time, do not indicate, please, where I should go and what to do.
аватар orhideya21
You can get a free taxi from the hotel by prior reservation or catch a taxi outside the hotel. There are many shops, disco and cafes where people of all ages drink coffee, smoke hookah or just relax. Try not to wear a bra top and a 25 cm skirt in the city and everything is fine, but such clothes are more appropriate for disco. And if you go there, it is absolutely specific to get to know someone from the locals. It’s just that local vacationers also walk there, it will be more correct. And then recently I saw a girl at 35 degrees in a local McDonald's (the only place in Naama where you can visit the toilet for free). heat in a pink top, a dark pink short skirt, red tights in a large mesh and bright pink summer high patent leather boots (+ a pink mobile phone). Impressed! but maybe the girl didn’t come to Egypt at all to rest, but vice versa ...
аватар orhideya21
I followed your tactic of advising others about "...souvenir shops are best left to Greece....". Naturally, only you are free in your choice, and the word "Visit" from my commentary is not an INSTRUCTION, but a WISH!
аватар Pachok
Then thank you very much for your wishes! I myself want to visit as many countries as possible before old age comes :)
аватар orhideya21
You are welcome. I in no way intended to offend you. It's just that your commentary from an experienced tourist may slightly frighten off the "green tourists" to form their own opinion about the country "outside the territory".
аватар Nikolay_Kiev
How did you get so many? Everything is pretty simple. My wife's birthday, her old dream (a fur coat) has been replaced by an almost equivalent: 11 days in Egypt in a decent hotel + a cruise on the Nile. Well, there it went and went :) Luxor Edfu, Essna, Aswan, Abu Simbel. We returned to the hotel, patience was enough for three days. And again: Cairo with museums and pyramids, jeep safari. In general, they completely forgot about the fur coat. More than a thousand photos, a lot of impressions. A great desire to visit Cairo and Alexandria again. One day is not enough. And it's not Cairo itself that attracts - the museum is cool. And it would be nice to go to Petra, but there are still so many interesting things in Egypt. Despite the fact that they traveled a lot "a lot", they managed to sunbathe and relax, and see the country and talk a little with people. By the way, in Aswan quite a lot of older Egyptians understand Russian. How many years have passed since the construction of the dam, but they remember. The tour was taken in "Sam-e" In my opinion there is no difference. Vstpechala "Future Travel" worked out well in general.
They wrote here many times: what you go to the country for, you will get. By the way, the Arabic-Russian phrase book helped a lot. The local contingent changed before our eyes :) My wife had a couple of light summer trouser suits - a double benefit: the sun gives heat in December and stares less
аватар Nikolay_Kiev
yes, cost. The beginning of December is the dead (for the Egyptians) season. Prices are almost at their lowest. The hotel was chosen by HB - and there are fewer of us and we are indifferent to alcohol. Additional excursions significantly affected the budget. And there were a lot of them. But with all the cases, they kept within 2500 or a little more bucks. I just forgot how much it took for souvenirs. We have no regrets. Cruise on the Nile in December is something. Didn't want to leave. In last year's tour of Europe, they also clocked up quite a lot of kilometers and countries, but Egypt pulls. Too bad you can't get there by car. :) Damn, at their prices for gasoline and diesel fuel, they just drool. But in their environment, such a travel option will be a fantasy for a long time to come. It's a pity. The country is bright, unusual. The people are poor, but quite welcoming and friendly. It is not necessary to judge the country only by the Red Sea region, where the path is ordered for ordinary Egyptians and where everything is sharpened for foreign tourists (for us, it became)

More about security. Someone will give a guarantee that a camera or a handbag will not be taken away from a gaping tourist somewhere in Paris, Amsterdam or Warsaw? They tried to get into my wife's bag right in the souvenir shop in Amsterdam. In Paris, I "accidentally" opened a zipper on a wardrobe trunk with a camera, two bicycles were stolen from my daughter in Frankfurt in three years. I myself saw a "cemetery of bicycles" there, where, near the turnstiles, only what was fastened with a lock remained from bicycles. :) And in Frankfurt and Amsterdam. You can, of course, only travel to "safe places" in Luxembourg, such as this one. Too bad it's small. :))
аватар orhideya21
Thank you very much! I vote! Very interesting and well written! It’s a pity, I haven’t got further than Luxor yet, but I really want to, but long journeys are so tiring. Nikolai, tell me, please, where does the Nile cruise start? Really again from Hurghada to Luxor by bus? And back?
аватар Nikolay_Kiev
There are two options, and, as I understand it, it is not known in advance how it will be. 1) By bus to Luxor and then excursions to the Temple of Karnak, lunch, crossing the Nile, visiting the Valley of the Kings, the colossi of Memnon and the Temple of Hatshepsut, boarding the ship and further to Aswan, from Aswan to Hurghada by bus. 2) From Hurghada to Aswan and further down the Nile to Luxor. We had option 1. Compared to a regular visit to Luxor, there is a plus: more time for excursions, since the ship is right next to it. The second plus: during the cruise you have a rest and before arriving in Aswan, the excursions along the way are interesting and not tiring. And in Aswan you can already try to ride "for all the money" Visiting the botanical garden on the island, the Bedouin village, night (evening but dark at the end):) excursion to Philae Island, a trip to Abu Simbel, excursions to the Aswan Dam and city. If desired, visit papyrus and incense shops, jewelry.
All in all, it doesn't seem like much. After such a program, plop down on the bus seat and under the air conditioning, you will also get free views from the window on the real life of Egypt, and not what is shown in the Red Sea zone. Take a look ... it's about 10 hours to go. :))
аватар orhideya21
Wow! before the words "to go about 10 hours" it was so tempting, but it was worth it to think hard and prepare. Thank you very much!
аватар Nikolay_Kiev
yeah what is there to think about. :) In Germany, the bus goes to relatives for 32 hours. And to the final destination (Studtgardt) in general 36 hours. And this is from Kyiv. But there are routes from Donetsk or Kharkov. And the buses are still there. Toilets are usually locked, air conditioners also do not always work. Often complain about Egyptian buses. Only after traveling around Europe on the buses of "our" and "former our" companies, you understand that it's not worth complaining about Egyptian transport for foreign tourists. As for a country with a standard of living that is not close to the European one, the state of the tourism sector can be considered very worthy. Our Crimean authorities and homeowners have a lot to learn. They love loot, but they don’t strain for the sake of vacationers.
