Is it possible to visit Petra on your own? And how to do it? Are there public buses from Aqaba and back? Or how much is a taxi?

We organized all the excursions ourselves, i.e. agreed with a taxi driver (who was advised to us by a local Ukrainian woman) and drove together, but four of us can do it. It's definitely cheaper than buying from an agency. The driver waits as long as you need, you don’t need to run after anyone, be afraid that you will be late. We lived in Aqaba and the entrance cost us 50 dinars per person (about $70). We paid $100 for a taxi. I'm attaching the taxi driver's business card.

It is possible, but difficult, to visit Peter on your own. There is even a sign that "This is where Peter's illegal path begins." You need to be prepared for the fact that the locals will cling to the requirement to show a ticket. If you don't have one, you may be handed over to the police. Also, the trail is not recommended for those who are afraid of heights.
