september is the wettest month, in Phuket the coimat is very different from Pattaya, so don't compare. At the expense of excursions - this is individual, I always recommend not to spread out, but to take a couple of really interesting ones, better something from the sea and a trip to the mainland in the jungle. Water park, oceanarium, orchid garden, butterfly garden - wasted time and money. If anything, write closer to the flight - I'll tell you how things are with the weather here in Phuket.
